Making of a Man
Of all that we are given
enters in the joy of life,
of love and new beginnings
Born of blood and painful cries.
A newborn as he enters,
The innocence of earth
Entrusted to a mother,
Cleansing waters hail new birth.
A cradled babe in swaddling clothes
she sings sweet lullabies
With night a moon is rising,
See it shining through her eyes.
She pulls the infant closer
Her footsteps sure and light
In poverty or riches
None matches with her pride.
The future growth is promised,
a path of hope is bearing light.
Her work is never simple
Her candle burning ever bright.
The choices of his making
Will make a man of him,
The prayers of a mother
Will gird him from within.
