Hi there. In this Pokemon TCG post I cover the Temporal Forces promotional cards. These are Feraligatr, Metang, Koraidon and Miraidon.
I do not provide clickable links this time around. It takes long to do that when I make posts. I can post pictures from Bulbapedia and TCG Player for your viewing and reading pleasure.
These four promo cards can be obtained from Build and Battle Box Kits. You receive one promo card from Feraligatr, Metang, Koraidon and Miraidon. In addition you receive two sets from Feraligatr, Metang, Koraidon and Miraidon. More information can be found here. Screenshot here.
Feraligatr
Feraligatr is a Stage 2 water Pokemon with a sizable 180 HP. It has a good attack of Giant Wave for 160 damage with 2 Water energy as its cost. The ability is quite good. You can put 5 damage counters on Feraligatr to receive a 120 damage boost. Giant Wave attack can hit for 280 damage! As a lot of VSTARs and Stage 1 ex Pokemon are 280 HP or lower, hitting for 280 damage is quite powerful. Add a Maximum Belt ACE SPEC card to do up to 330 damage to one hit knockout a Charizard ex (Dark Tera type).
Pros
- Single prizer with a strong attack
- Combos well with Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR
- Hitting for 280 damage can knockout most 2 prized Pokemon
Cons
- Stage 2 Pokemon, can be hard to set up
- High retreat cost of 3
- Water does not have Energy Accleration outside of Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR. Exp Share can kind of help though.
Metang
Steel type Pokemon get a good boost thanks to Metang. Metang is a stage 1 Pokemon that evolves from Beldum. Its ability Metal Maker is similar to Electric Generator for Electric types. Once during your turn, you can look at the top 4 cards of your deck. Attach any number of Metal Energy cards you find from the four to your Pokemon in any way you like. Other cards not selected are shuffled to the bottom of the deck. You can use multiple Metang to acclerate Energy.
Metang is much better than Magnezone as Magnezone is a Stage 2 Pokemon while Metang is a Stage 1 Pokemon. Although Magnezone has a better ability than Metang it is far easier to get Metang in play versus Magnezone.
Metang would be used as the Energy engine to power up attackers like Copperajah ex, Origin Forme Dialga VStar and Melmetal ex. You could also use non-metal attackers like Snorlax, Slaking V and the soon to be released Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex. (I provide links here.)
Pros
- Very good Energy acceleration for Metal Energy
- Stage 1 Pokemon
- 100 HP is outside of Radiant Greninja attack range
Cons
- Bad attack for its cost.
- Two energy retreat cost
- Fire weakness
Koraidon
This Koraidon card is one the better Koraidon cards out there. This one has Dragon typing with no weakness and a good amount of HP. The first attack does 30 damage for each Ancient Pokemon in play on your side. The maximum damage for the first attack is 180 damage but I think the usual damage would be 90 or 120. This first attack is quite good for a 2 energy cost. Koraidon's second attack of Shred does 130 damage with a Fire, Fighting and Colorless energy cost. I don't think this second attack would be used that much.
Koraidon here is an Ancient card so it does combo with Professor Sada's Vitality, other copies of this Koraidon and the new Roaring Moon.
Pros
- Dragon type: No weakness and combos with Lance (if you play it)
- Very good first attack for a single prizer
- Ancient Type synergy
Cons
- Max damage cap at 180 HP. Not much one hit knockout potential
- Two retreat cost
- No synergy with Buddy Buddy Poffin.
Miraidon
This Dragon Miraidon from Temporal Forces is pretty crazy for a single prize Pokemon. It is rare to have a Basic Pokemon with a one energy attack that does 30 damage. This one does one energy for 40 damage with energy accleration to Future Pokemon. It is pretty crazy. This first attack is better in the early game versus the late game. In the late game this card could still be okay as it is a good attacker but you would not have much energy in the deck.
Pros
- Very good first attack for one energy cost, best for early game.
- Future type synergy with other Miraidon, Iron Crown ex, Future Booster Energy Capsule and Reboot Pod
- Dragon type: No weakness and combos with Lance (if you play it)
Cons
- Miraidon more for early game than late game.
- No synergy with Buddy Buddy Poffin.
- Second attack could be hard to pull off with Three energy cost
Closing Notes
All four promo cards from Temporal Forces are really good. The worst one here is Feraligatr as it is hard to get a Stage 2 Pokemon in play but it is the best attacker out of the four in terms of pure damage. Miraidon is a must for Future decks, Koraidon is a good option for Ancient decks outside of Roaring Moon and Metang is very good for Metal decks.
Thank you for reading.
