Hi there. In this post I cover the cards Bloodmoon Ursaluna and Genesect from the Pokemon TCG set Night Wanderer to be released soon in Japan on June 7, 2024. This card will be released in English as a part of the Shrouded Fable set on August 2, 2024.
These two cards are worth sharing as they can impact the game.
Genesect
This single prize Genesect is a Basic Pokemon of the Metal type with 110 HP. The attack of Magneblast has an energy cost of one metal and two colourless energies for 100 damage. The retreat cost is one which is good for a Basic Pokemon.
Genesect's ability here is something that you cannot really ignore. Ace Canceller denies the opponent from playing ACE SPEC cards from their hand if there is a Pokemon Tool attached to Genesect. If you know the opponent has not played an ACE SPEC card yet then having this with a Tool card in play is quite powerful.
I am not sure which type of decks this could fit in but the most likely candidate would be a control deck. Control decks typically like to limit opponent options and frustrate opponents from attacking. Some controls may deck you out in a fast way or in a slow stall manner. Even if this is not in a control deck Genesect + Tool card provides a powerful element of control against the opponent.
Pros
- Powerful ability to deny ACE SPEC card plays from opponent.
- Attack damage is okay for single prize basic Pokemon.
Cons
- Attack is kind of costly.
- Useless if opponent already played ACE SPEC card.
Bloodmoon Ursaluna - Fighting Big Basic Pokemon
Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex was a bulky Pokemon and so is this single prize version of Bloodmoon Ursaluna. Instead of the normal type this one is Fighting type. It has a bulky 150 HP, four retreat cost and grass weakness. As this has four retreat cost you can use Heavy Baton to transfer up to 3 Basic Energy when this is knocked out.
Its ability of Rule of Thumb is similar to Galarian Zapdos from the E regulation block. When Bloodmoon Ursaluna is played from hand to Bench, you may attach up to two Basic Fighting energy cards from the hand to this Pokemon. It is energy acceleration from the hand provided that there are Fighting energies from hand. I definitely see this working well with Raging Bolt ex which requires Basic energy in play to discard for its Bellowing Thunder attack.
The attack of Mud Bite requires two Fighting and one colourless energy. Its base damage is 100 and it does 30 more damage for each damage counter on the opponent's Active Pokemon. There is no upper limit to its damage which is quite scary for a single prize Pokemon. You attack with this Blood Moon Ursaluna on a non damaged Pokemon for 100 damage. If the opponent Pokemon survives you can attack again for 100 plus 30 times 100 which is 100 + 300 = 400 damage on the second turn. This is kind of crazy. This card is one of the craziest beatstick type attackers out there in the G, H regulation block.
Pros
- Big Basic single prize Pokemon with 150 HP.
- Strong attack with base damage of 100 and increases a lot per damage counter on opponent's Pokemon.
- Four retreat cost compatibility with Heavy Baton.
Cons
- Grass weakness
- Four retreat cost is bad if stuck in active with no Switch nor Heavy Baton.
- Costly attack cost.
