Hi there. Here are more Pokemon card reveals from Japan's upcoming Team Rocket Set.
Team Rocket's Blipbug & Dottler
Team Rocket's Blipbug is a 60 HP Grass Basic Pokemon with 1 retreat cost and Fire weakness. The Searching Eye attack does not deal damage but it has an interesting effect. You look at 1 of your opponent's Face down Prize cards.
Team Rocket's Dottler is the evolved form of the Blipbug from above. As an attacker it does not deal much damage.
Team Rocket's Orbeetle
The final evolution is Team Rocket's Orbeetle. Its Psychic attack is kind of expensive at 40 base damage plus 40 more damage for each Energy attached to your opponent's Active Pokemon.
The Rocket Brain ability is a damage counter transfer effect. As many times as you like you may move 1 damage counter from 1 of your Team Rocket's Pokemon to another 1 of your Pokemon. In theory you can heal damage from one Team Rocket's Pokemon and place them on a different Pokemon to avoid a potential knockout hit next turn.
Overall this Evolution line is not great. Too many cards needed to get the Orbeetle in play with an attack that is kind of hard to get for somewhat little damage.
This Orbeetle has an illustration rare version. It does look like an anime image still. This art is not really for me but others may like this.
Team Rocket's Drowzee
Team Rocket's Drowzee has 80 HP, two retreat cost, Dark weakness and one attack. For one Psychic energy Hypnotic Ray does 10 damage plus makes the opponent's Active Pokemon Asleep. An attack with auto Sleep to the opponent is pretty good for a Basic Pokemon in the early game.
Team Rocket's Hypno
The evolved form of Team Rocket's Drowzee is Team Rocket's Hypno. The first attack of Psyshot does 40 damage for one Psychic Energy. The second attack of Bench Manipulation is really interesting. This attack requires 3 Psychic Energy and its attack is dependent on the number of the opponent's Benched Pokemon and coin flips. Instead of the attack flipping a coin, it is the opponent that flips a coin. Flip a coin for each of the opponent's Pokemon the Hypno does 80 damage for each Tails the opponent flips.
In theory the maximum damage from a full bench of 5 Pokemon of the opponent is 400 (80 x 5) if all tails is flipped. Flipping 5 tails in a row is really lucky for the attack as this is a 1 out of 32 chance. (Half to the power of five).
With the Area Zero Underdepths stadium in play this Team Rocket's Hypno can exploit greedier Benches from the opponent. In theory you can get up to 8 coin flips from the opponent. The theoretical max damage you can do is 640 from 8 tails. This is a 1 out of 256 chance or less than half a percent. I can foresee Youtube videos putting clickbait style titles for decks that can do up to 500 damage from this Hypno. Look at the likelihoods of such random events happening.
You can use a binomial random variable calculator to get damage outputs and their respective probabilities. To cover all the cases is too much. One major variable is the number of Benched Pokemon on the opponent's side.
Three Flips Case
| Tails Flipped | Damage Output | Probability |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 0 | 12.5% |
| 1 | 80 | 37.5% |
| 2 | 160 | 37.5% |
| 3 | 240 | 12.5% |
Five Flips Case (Opponent Full Bench)
| Tails Flipped | Damage Output | Probability |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 0 | 3.125% |
| 1 | 80 | 15.625% |
| 2 | 160 | 31.25% |
| 3 | 240 | 31.25% |
| 4 | 320 | 15.625% |
| 5 | 400 | 3.125% |
To hit 240 damage or more you need the opponent to hit 3 Tails out of 5. This is at least 50%. Not bad actually.
Seven Flips Case (Area Zero Underdepths In Play, Opponent Has 7 Benched Pokemon)
As the opponent benches more Pokemon your odds increase in dealing 200 plus damage.
| Tails Flipped | Damage Output | Probability | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 0 | 0.781% | |
| 1 | 80 | 5.469% | |
| 2 | 160 | 16.406% | |
| 3 | 240 | 27.344% | |
| 4 | 320 | 27.344% | |
| 5 | 400 | 16.406% | |
| 6 | 480 | 5.469% | |
| 7 | 560 | 0.781% |
To get 240 damage or more when your opponent Benches 7 seven Pokemon is 77.344% (Add cases 3 to 7 for tails flipped). This is pretty high. Team Rocket's Hypno can hit some big numbers if the opponent has big Benches.
I can somewhat see this Hypno being used in a Team Rocket deck. This Hypno is one more option to Slowking decks along with Conkeldurr, Kyurem and Regigigas.
