Poker Tip Of The Day
Mind The Tilt Wait, what you mean by that bigp? It's quite simple, if you are tilting, acknowledge that you are doing so, and take steps to remedy it. When a player goes on tilt, it is not something that is an instant firecracker of spark, and then it dissipates. While going on tilt certainly can be induced from one single bad hand, allowing the tilted mind set to beat you takes longer than a moment.
I will give you a real life example to help you understand what I mean...
Yesterday I was doing well in the Sunday 50 SBD. I was at the final table with 4 people left, and in prime spot to finish in 1st place. Two things got in my way of finishing in 1st place, one was my desire to beat Team Epic. Team play brings out the heavy competitive spirit in many of us, and unfortunately, I allowed it to consume me to the point that it effected my poker play negatively. I was hell bent on beating instead of being hell bent on winning the tournament. The second thing that rocked me off my game was me succumbing to the tilt. In an effort to knock (
) out of the tournament, I got into a few hands with him that I probably should not have. One hand in particular dessimated me to about 25K chips - which was still enough to make a comeback with, or at the very least, secure the 3rd place finish. Instead, when I lost the big hand, I lost it mentally...started to shove until the game was over. At that point I did not care about 3rd place, did not care about team points, did not care about poker - I simply was enraged to the point I wanted out. Long story short (too late, I know), I lost the tournament in 4th place within a matter of minutes, punched my laptop screen, and left the room.
THAT IS NOT HOW YOU HANDLE YOURSELF AT A POKER GAME - be it online, or irl. Bottom line, had I acknowledged the moment () put me on tilt, I could have sat out of the game, walked away for a few minutes, or just closed my eyes, and recomposed my mental energy. This could have possibly allowed me to come back and take 1st, or at the very least, moved up one spot on the ranks and alloted my team that many more points.
So folks, remember --- 'Mind The Tilt'.
