🇬🇧STANISŁAW ULAM – CO-CREATOR OF A NUCLEAR BOMB
Stanisław Ulam was born on 13 April 1909 in Lemberg (pol. Lwów, ukr. Львів, Lwiw).. He was a Polish American mathematician, a member of the Lwów School of Mathematics🎓.
In August 1939, he left for the USA🇺🇸 together with his brother Adam. Between 1939 and 1940, he lectured at Harvard University👨🏫. In 1941, Stanisław Ulam started working as a professor at the State University of Wisconsin. That year he obtained American citizenship. He worked at the Los Alamos Laboratory in Los Alamos🧪 from 1944 to 1955, where he collaborated with, among others, Robert Oppenheimer as part of the Manhattan project☢️.
Between 1955 and 1967, he was a scientific advisor to the laboratory. At that time, he became the de facto creator of the hydrogen bomb. From 1944 to 1955, he was one of the key creators of Project Orion, which developed a space nuclear pulse propulsion. He also worked on Project Rover, a nuclear reactor-equipped rocket🚀.

Stanisław Ulam urodził się 13 kwietnia 1909 r. we Lwowie. Był polsko-amerykańskim matematykiem, przedstawicielem lwowskiej szkoły matematycznej🎓.
W sierpniu 1939 r. – wraz z bratem Adamem – wypłynął do USA🇺🇸. W latach 1939–1940 wykładał na Harvard University👨🏫. W 1941 r. Stanisław Ulam rozpoczął pracę jako profesor na uniwersytecie stanowym w Wisconsin, w tym roku otrzymał amerykańskie obywatelstwo W okresie 1944–1955 pracował w Laboratorium Atomowym w Los Alamos🧪, gdzie wspólnie m.in z Robertem Oppenheimerem działał w ramach Projektu Manhattan☢️.
W latach 1955–1967 był doradcą naukowym laboratorium. W tym czasie stał się faktycznym twórcą bomby wodorowej. W okresie 1944–1955 był jednym z kluczowych twórców programu Orion, w którym opracowywano napęd nuklearny rakiet kosmicznych🚀. Pracował wtedy także nad projektem Rovera, rakiety wyposażonej w reaktor jądrowy.
