I recently came across a story that reported a mass exodus of people leaving California and New York.
The reason?
Taxes. Or, to be more specific, that they're too high.
I get it. I've lived in California most of my life, and the taxes are indeed, very high. We have taxes on top of taxes, and that hurts the overall standard of living.
However, to be fair, taxes aren't the most pressing issue. If anything, the overpriced real estate market has more to do with California's problems than mere taxes -- after all, it's not the taxes that make real estate prices high; it's the demand for living in Californian metropolises.
That said, I would consider leaving California, and the thought has crossed my mind several times. I would do it because our state is becoming increasingly violent. With liberal ideologies that encourage open border policies, we're inundated with unskilled, uneducated individuals who are prone to violence.
Add in the desperation that these individuals feel and it makes for a volatile mix. I just don't want a part of that, and so, should our California communities continue on this violent trend, I'd definitely make my way out.
