I was working at Land Rover in parts quality as the engineer.
My job was to keep all the tracks running when a part was wrong, or did not conform to standards. I was working permanent nights, there was at one time over 40 people doing the same job. When I left there were 2 of us.
It was horrible some days, I would be in bed asleep and someone would phone me on my works mobile phone, that I was not allowed to switch off (early indestructible Nokia 3310), and they would ask me about problems they were having in the day time. I never phoned them in the middle of the night, yet it was okay the other way round hmmmmmm. I even took calls while in the shower, from the gate keeper, about suppliers arriving. 2 hours before my shift started. ENOUGH is enough I cried in my head.
The job did pay well, but and a big but, it took over my life 24/7 and 6 days a week. No money on earth was worth that.
I had taken a 16 day holiday to Pattaya Thailand the year before, and fell in love with the innocence of the place. Even getting stopped for no driving licence got me a $8 bribe (or 300 Baht) and on my merry way, I loved it.
The year was 2003 and the world was looking messy with 9/11 and all. I wanted to cop out for a few years from tv and bs false flags.
I had found this new fangled site called eBay and I loved it, my plan was set in motion, resign at 6.56 am by email. Take a digital camera to Thailand, knowing I could buy t-shirts for a $1 and football shirts for $3 and sell them on the internet, for much more. Emirates flight booked? check, camera? check. Boom gone, the same day. it was a Friday.
I landed some time late night in Bangkok (Saturday due to a stop over in Dubai), and took a cab from the airport to Pattaya, 2 hours and 30 mins or more, for $25 or 1000 baht. I arrived at my hotel, which was $100 for a month, Jomtien long stay hotel it is a lot more expensive now They even let me fit a line in for the internet in my room, as I paid for 3 months up front and I bought a second hand pc to go online.
It was simple to do, I became the biggest shop on eBay at the time, based in Thailand. I went round every stall, every shop and every market and asked them if I came back tomorrow for something, that I take a photo of now, would you be able to get it back in stock, within 1 day if you have sold out? if the answer was YES MR, then I took a photo of it, including paintings (oil and others) clothes and electricals like valve amplifiers from China, $110 each that sold at $700 each for me. Boom I was living like a King. I had the largest shop on eBay without having to own the goods in advance, mr Amazon was I .
Where there is a will, there is a way. Never be scared to get away from the tax dodging government that takes you and I for granted, as willing slaves.
xmas day 2008 I was still there here I no longer use youtube, I find the site restrictions less than admirable.
Peace love and respect. Hope you are having a lovely day.
