I prefer liberty to authoritarianism because I do not believe I have the right to tell any other individual how they can live their life. That means I cannot tell them how to dress, what words to speak, who they can love, what they should call themselves, where they can travel, or things like what everyday clothing should be acceptable that they can wear.
None of those choices impact me and my life. That is their liberty. If you don't have the liberty to wear what you want, say what you want (doesn't mean there won't be consequences) or live in a way that you want which is peaceful, then you aren't even afforded the basic rights that should come with freedom.
This is libertarianism, giving others the freedom to live and be themselves without infringement coming from others or the government.
You hear many people refer to themselves today as libertarian but when they start promoting words and actions that infringe upon the rights of others, that seek to bully other people into living according to their own will, then they don't understand the basic meaning of the word liberty. They think their actions are justified because they are trying to protect what they subjectively view as their "culture" but if you need the government to protect your culture, then it is worthless; culture doesn't need violence in order to be protected. But dishonest authoritarians aren't going to be so forthcoming on embracing that simple truth.
If you only support liberty for people who look like and act like you do then you do not support individual liberty.
