Italian bonds slump on debt write-off chatter
10 years Italian Government bonds drop -0.8% on the day as the 5 Stars Movement and the Lega Nord, which are trying to make a “coalition” in order to govern the Bella Vita Republic, say that are discussing the CRAZY option of potentially writing-down billions worth of debt outstanding. Precisely 250bn EUROs worth of debt.
This proposal is clearly ridiculous and unrealistic, why would the market even react on such foolish comments? Not even Greece was able to write off debt until the very last minutes of almost humanitarian crisis.
The Government bizarre coalition is not yet formed, contrary to what seemed to be happening last week. We would likely hear something today on whether they’ll be able to actually merge their crazy ideas together and both sign the “contractual agreement” for reforms to be undertaken. Most importantly, I hope, inside myself, they’ll fight the EU Commission, whom is not elected and keeps waterfalling to Sovereign Governments rules which are unfair and render Italy uncompetitive for interest of Germany and France. Basta!!
