In a bid to relax the rules of trade and freedom of movement, goods and services between European countries in 1973 Britain entered the then European Economic Community. For many Britons it sounded like we should at least give it a try. This sentiment was confirmed in the 1975 referendum on our membership, in which 70% of Brits voted to remain a member of the club.
However, what my parents and grandparents didn't vote for was a political union. By 1993 the European Economic Community had changed to the European Community which then became the European Union (EU). By this time the institutions of the EU had become vastly powerful and interventionist. The EU were not only making a plethora of laws they were also interpreting them with their European Court of Justice. Britain's law making powers were being extensively eroded, as was Britain's independence. And did our government bother to check with us that it was alright for them to sign us all up to this arrangement? No.
We couldn't manage our own immigration, and by 2004 we had to let in anyone who was a resident of the other 27 member states. Mass migration is not a good thing for any country. But of course that is precisely what the globalist elites want. The EU is a great tool of control for the globalists.
There is at best one third democracy built into the European Union, in practice it's even less. Therefore for the most part it is a dictatorship. Apparently I am illiberal because I voted to leave a dictatorship. In fact I am also a bigot and a racist for voting to leave this dictatorship cleverly known as a union. How can any right minded liberal claim to be liberal when they are demanding to be part of a dictatorship? What has happened to these peoples' minds?
