This topic didn't want to be written until now. Last week I put down around four to five hundred words about the upcoming special election then somehow deleted it all.
It was strange because it was the 1st time I've lost work without being upset about it. Being that the election was on Tuesday, and the results are more than less in, makes it sweeter to write about now.
Don't quote me on this one cause I read it on Facebook. But it said that California hasn't flipped a House Seat in 20 or so years.
Here's the recap from the writing I lost...
California's 25th Congressional District had its House Seat up for a special election after Democrat Katie Hill's resignation.
It seems she was screwing a staff member while going through a divorce. Her husband didn't like this much. Not to mention, Congress had just adopted new standards of behavior as a result of the #metoo movement.
All this led up to Tuesday where Republican Mike Garcia faced off against Democrat Christy Smith. Which brings me to the main point of what I was writing before.
The LA County Recorder somehow found it in the people's best interest to open a walk in polling booth in Lancaster.
Guess which political leanings the people of Lancaster have? 20 points if you said Democrat.
You see, polling had Republican Mike Garcia well out in front of Mrs. Smith. So even though businesses and beaches are closed, it's ok to open another walk in voting station.
The County already had eight!
I'm actually all for the voting station, it's just funny what it takes for the residents of Lancaster to get one.
The Results Are Overwhelmingly For Mike Garcia
Last reported on Wednesday the 13th, a day after the special election, put Mike Garcia ahead by a margin of 22%.
Christy Smith has already congratulated Mr. Garcia, but wants the votes to be all be counted. Republicans are calling for her to concede the election as the remaining votes aren't likely to make any difference.
I seem to remember Democrats calling the last election in favor of Governor Gavin Newsome under some more than questionable circumstances.
Congratulations are in order for Mike Garcia, new member of the House of Reps. He'll hold the seat for a few months until the next election when he'll beat Christy Smith again!
Great job Mike! Now watch out for the shenanigans.
I wonder if this is a preamble to what California will see come November. It seems far fetched, but even a few more flipped seats would help.
Happy Hiveing!
