I criticize things about my country a lot, as is my duty as a citizen within a Democratic Republic. But it's important to also give praise where praise is due.
I believe this is a proud moment for "a nation of immigrants" (plus indigenous people and descendants of those kidnapped and enslaved from elsewhere). If there truly is an American Dream, surely for a refugee to rise to become a part of the body that creates our laws must be a shining example of that dream fulfilled.
Congratulations, America. You've done well today.
(Now back to my regular commentary on endless war, divisiveness, environmental degradation, financial instability, and dealing with all of the above as best one can.)
