This morning my time here in Europe, which was last night back home in Australia a group of us Aussies in the team Australia Chat Room on Discord got into the topic of "Politics".
We touched on a number of topics, some of which were about the Australian Political scene and some which were general topics, stretching from the different practices in various countries and how their nations exercise their democratic rights to the different forms of representation out there.
One of the things that was mentioned briefly was choosing representatives by name rather than "political affiliation".
This to me is something that I support fully, no matter whether we are talking about local, state, federal or even international politics. When I say International I mean at levels such as "The United Nations" and those that represent our nation there.
Why do I support this idea?
Well, in the conversation, the terms "left and right" came up, to which I responded in my direct manner with "No such thing, you are either a good person or a bad person".
After which the question of good or bad, what is what to whom? popped up.
Again, I answered this directly without any wrapping paper with something to this effect:
"Good peoples on this earth are those that try to adhere to The Universal Declaration of Human Rights that was accepted by the peoples of this world. Those that do not adhere to them and yet they signed off on them are worth as much as their signature" Meaning that they are "not good people" (BAD, VERY BAD)
So this was part of the conversation, then I actually did a naughty and stuck a link to a post I wrote about politics, which was called:
"TOP Politics = Transparent, Open & Public Politics!"
I'll include a link at the bottom of this post for those who may be interested.
Basically it is the idea that all policy making processes should be as the title suggests, transparent, open and public. Logically, no body should expect this when it could endanger peoples lives, such as those that could give away national secrets about homeland security or defence forces etc. So a level of logic needs to apply to this notion.
The next topic of discussion that we went into was about "Referendums" and I mentioned that in Switzerland they have this functioning fairly well, Whereby many of the decisions are made via referendums. Probably the only method by which any law is 100% legitimate.
Why have I gone on about a discussion that some of us had in a chat room on Discord?
Well, later on in the day it got me thinking about Steemit and how we here have a form of democracy that is:
Direct.
In so much that we pick our Witnesses (representatives) by user name.
So that base is covered.
It is fairly transparent, open and somewhat public.
A very high score in comparison to most of the "political scenes" out there in the "real world"!
Again, this is highly due to the fact that we are talking about politics that is interlinked with Blockchain technology and every vote and notion made by anyone, whether that be a voter or a Witness is open to the public.
However, on the "referendum" side of things I fail to see how this has been considered, or if it has been considered.
Was thinking long and hard about it today.
Can this be incorporated into the policy making processes here on our Blockchain?
If so, HOW?
Personally Steemit with its two out of the three mentioned topics has definitely won me over as far as the politics of this place goes.
It is well above anything that we see in the "real world" and this makes me even more willing and able to put in a lot more effort here. Not only because we can earn some more Steem and SBD here, but because it complies with the majority of aspects that I as an individual consider to be very important, as far as politics, or policy making processes are concerned.
I do believe that there is always room for improvement, but the fact remains that we here are already light years ahead of any and all of the "governments" out there.
We do not have political parties, we do not label human beings as "lefties or right wingers" or any other derogatory label that people stick on other peoples foreheads when it concerns politics and policy making. We are definitely achieving something that many only mention in "theory".
I hope that this short post may get you thinking about the opportunities that we have here, likewise I would love to read any thoughts that people may have on these topics.
ohh, yeah, and here is the link to the post I referred to earlier:
