Last week, Twitter was caught shadow-banning republican voices from being visible in it's search results. This up-ranked liberals at the expense of silencing prominent conservative voices.
VICE News investigated Twitter, and found that it was limiting visibility of prominent Republicans in order to "improve" the "quality" of it's platform. They want to make people talk about what they want them to talk about: liberal personalities and ideas.
The Republican Party chair Ronna McDaniel, several conservative Republican congressmen, and Donald Trump Jr.’s spokesman no longer appear in the auto-populated drop-down search box on Twitter, VICE News has learned. It’s a shift that diminishes their reach on the platform — and it's the same one being deployed against prominent racists to limit their visibility. The profiles continue to appear when conducting a full search, but not in the more convenient and visible drop-down bar.
So, Twitter considered Republicans on par with racists. Interesting. It's no wonder the Right is recognized to support free-speech more than the Left. Social media's liberal leaning operational ownership has been employing efforts to silence what they consider objectionable content in order to control the things people can see, hear or think about.
Twitter said this was related to their new approach of combating "troll-like behaviors," as their changes mean "people contributing to the healthy conversation will be more visible in conversations and search".
Healthy conversations are liberal/Democrat, while conservative/Republicans are more unhealthy, like racists. Great job fairly representing the political landscape with your tampering in an election year Twitter.
Twitter’s troll hunt, however, has ensnared some of the most prominent Republicans in the country... That limits their visibility and the ease of finding their profiles compared to their liberal counterparts.
This makes Republicans and their posts less accessed, while Democrats get more views and hits due to automatically getting a higher rank in the listings.
Isn't this what the type of thing the Deep State and media had concocted about Russia tampering with the previous election to get Trump voted in? I guess Twitter is like CNN, CNBC, CBS and ABC, with favoritism towards the Left, and FOX is favors the Right. They all tamper with what their viewers get access to, and it's normalized, so why not Twitter too, right?
Twitter, has oddly left Alex Jones and InfoWars alone, when YouTube and Facebook have already taken measures to ban and censor their content, as I posted on a few days ago. They want the more alternative radical Right-leaning personalities to be left up to turn people off, while taking away the visibility of the more moderate mainstream conservative info.
After VICE News' story hit, and Breitbart picked it up, Twitter quickly changed the site's behavior. Twitter even denied the were shadow banning to Breibart, even though they were shadow-banning, call it an "error" instead. But this was a desired behavior that they only got busted on. It's easy to deny and claim it's all an "error". But earlier in the week, Gizmodo also confirmed the shadow-banning.
As an unintended side effect of demoting divisive figures, many of the dropdown results now show fake accounts.
People have previously mocked those who spoke of this shadow-banning, claiming they were "Conspiracy theorists". But now the proof is in the pudding, and they are seeing the reality that they previously denied.
Must admit that when some R sources have complained about this to me I mocked them to their face as conspiracy theorists. This Vice article makes me rethink that, and response from Twitter is inadequate. https://t.co/zjAnFV5dzT via
