Senator Linda Reynolds
The Hyperbolic headline from the Daily Mail was not nearly as hyperbolic as the reasoning behind her argument
Imagine what ludicrous suggestion this person would make if they gained any political power.
We don't take the lead from the ADF a government organisation because, if we did it will spell an end for women's professional sport. If they had to compete on so called "merit" then none would qualify and AFL and NRL will look exactly the same. For any women to play of course quotas would need to be introduced, putting these women in danger of serious injury. I am not a weak guy, but I would get thrown around like a football in NRL. Have the discussion by all means, but this is how the discussion should go:
Linda Renyolds: I think all professional sports should be mixed.
Professional Sporting bodies: NO!
Maybe some women could make it and I have no problem with them participating and each case should be assessed, I would definitely watch it, at least once.
At least the Sydney morning Heralds headline was more reasonable.
Yes the debate should happen and here are some talking points.
- What about the propensity for women to damage the crucial ligaments (5 time more likely to tear ACL)
- How will this effect the number of women in professional sports, if they can not meet the physical requirements.
- Would netball become mixed, what will be the result of the women's participation in that sport?
- will there be special rules required and quotas to be able to meet the requirement suggested.
So we have seen a man become woman of the year, we have seen men dominate womens mma and this lad is about to play state level womens football. I am calling bets on rookie of the year.
It is interesting to note that he hasn't been cleared to play in the AFLW league.
This former man, won a women's weightlifting competition.
Which begs the question, do men make better women? lol hahaha.
I don't know what side of the fence you think you sit on, but surely whichever side it is, does something not.... how should I say... add up here? Something a bit off, no? I don't know, call me old fashioned I guess. As long as everyone is all right with it, cool bananas. Let me know when you think we have gone to far.
Final Take Away
Except for one thing, the dunderhead that has suggested this debate is running for office. This is clearly not a well thought out political suggestion and people who vote should take note. Pro sports is one thing but politicians have a direct effect on us in this country, they make our decisions for us. This person is not fit to make decisions objectively, based on this demonstration of reasoning. Do not vote for this person, my god (or lack thereof) and they are in the liberal party?
