There are so many distractions at this point, that theres a good chance this is flying under the radar. Its finally happening, Assange will probably get suicided very soon.
For the life of me, I will go to my grave never understanding the ”logic” here. In America we love to praise the press for their hard work, for speaking truth to power, and it's no doubt part of the whole idea of American exceptionalism.
Truth, as a concept, or at least by itself, has nothing to do with partisanship, with the fight of good and evil. It's just the truth. What we deem it to be, if we deem it to be harmful for our agenda, for our political influence, or helpful to us, should be disconnected from the fact that it just is.
This is why I can never understand, nor support the idea that what he's done is evil. Did he harm the US by revealing the war crimes? Of course he did, but the problem is not that the truth is out, the problem is that those things happened. At its best, its deflection, it's a judo move to pretend that the problem is not what was exposed, but who exposed it.
I say this fully understanding how it hurts the US. Does a country have the right to have secrets? No. They have the right to attempt to have them, to try to cover their tracks, because in the end nobody can control the free will of others, but that is as far as it goes.
I guess we must accept another truth here. Justice is just an idea corrupted by those with power. There is no way that history will look back at the treatment Assange received with reverence, but more likely with disgust.
The older I get, the more I understand the need for Anarchy.
