The markets are crimson red today, and people, of course, are trying to understand what’s going on. My brother, who recently bought a good chunk of Hive to support our efforts, sent me a message about the price drop. His last question perfectly captures what 2025 feels like: Did Trump say something again?
I’m not going to sit here and pretend I don’t look at the market — I do. But I’m not under the illusion that “any day now” it’s going to rocket either. That said, my brother’s question made sense, so I decided to see if I could find the comment. It only took five minutes.
A video’s making the rounds: Trump being asked about his recent exchanges with China — over social media, naturally. A few days ago, he said all was good. But it’s not like Trump knows how to tame his tongue. He now admits, plainly, that we’re in a trade war with China. He goes on to say that he hopes to resolve it when he meets with their leadership in a few weeks, but insists he’s doing what he’s doing “to save America.”
Ridiculous statements, if you ask me — though none of us should be surprised. I find it hilarious, if not pathetic, that Trump’s latest “threat” to China was about not buying their cooking oil. We can produce our own, he said.
Square that for me, please. China controls the rare minerals our technology depends on, and our counter is, “We don’t want your Canola anymore”? Is that really the full picture?
Listen — I’m not going to pretend to have a trade policy in my back pocket. I don’t know enough to outline one. But I do know tariffs are just more taxes. And unless you’re some sort of masochist, I can’t see how anyone enjoys paying more.
Unless, of course, blind obedience to the cult leader is how you measure your value, and how you find your sense of purpose.
