Panama leaks - An issue which created a buzz around the world when ICIJ leaked details of offshore companies of individuals from all over the world.
As we all know Generally offshore companies are formed to hide black money and avoid taxes, this news toppled many goverments including resignation of president of iceland, UK and many other countries.
This leaks also contained names of family members of Nawaz sharif - Current prime minister of Pakistan. A countrywide protests erupted lead by Imran Khan - Former cricketer and current leader of main opposition party. The matter also went to Supreme court to seek disqualification of prime minster Nawaz due to allegations of Corruption, money laundering and tax evasion.
To investigate this matter, The supreme court constituted a high authority Joint investigation team (JIT) comprising of members from Security and intelligence agencies, State bank, Securities and exchange commission.
They conducted interviews of all members of Sharif family included the prime minister himself and her daughter !
Her daughter provided an affidavit, prepared in 2006 as an evidence. However the JIT was intelligent enough to notice that the affidavit was written using "Calibri" Font however this font was not commercially available till start of 2007. The team has concluded that this affidavit was fake and was prepared to mislead the investigation.
Now JIT has submitted its report to Supreme Court in which it has declared that Sharif Family is living beyond their means and their life style does not match their earnings. They have also reported regarding the usage of Calibri font.
The supreme court will hear this case on Monday.
This issue has been highlighted in foreign media as "Fontgate"
