Tomorrow is the date that will decide the democratic future of my country as it is the general elections. These will be my first vote cast as a citizen now that I'm 20. Hope everything goes smoothly I'm extremely eager for the day I can rightfully vote for the individuals that can either make or break the future of the very poilitically unstable country. A few reminders of how to choose your rightful candidate and party.
The first step is to find out which candidates are standing in your area/constituency (I have attached a link at the end). Then read up their party's (if they are not independent) manifesto. You don't have to necessarily read up each and every point. Just look up the issue that you feel is important to you. Be it education, health, water, anything.
The purpose of an election is not only to choose a leader but rather make a conscious decision. Electing a leader is secondary. The first thing is to know what we really need individually and then nationally. Voting blindly is the first step towards the downfall of democracy.
I'm not saying that these elections will change our past. But taking an initiative to know things will change YOU. And that is all that matters. Being self-aware is important in rebuilding a nation.
So please fulfill your responsibility it won't take much. It will be worth it.
