If doesn't seem that long since the UK had a national election and it isn't really. Prime Minister Theresa May decided to call an early one. She claims she wanted a bigger majority going into Brexit negotiations, but I wonder if more people are actually wanting that now. Anyway, it's another chance for the public to have their say. Only about two thirds are likely to vote and the silent third could totally change the result.
Where I live there's a choice of five candidates, but the Conservatives have maintained a big majority here for years. That's unlikely to change, but a vote is a statement, even if it makes no difference. In many places in the world people don't get that chance, so I won't waste mine.
Obviously the recent attacks will be on everyone's minds. Just changing the leadership will not immediately make us safer, but new policies may help. There need to be some brave decisions.
