One of the most hotly debated topics in US politics in recent weeks is directly related to the tension surrounding the possible impeachment of current President Donald Trump. Although this is an unavoidable situation to happen (because the "war" will end when there is a Senate vote, where most voters belong to the same Trump party), with each new step as this journey progresses, the media creates a real cauldron of news and raises the temperature around that.
In the most recent debate on December 19 (only among the remaining Democratic representatives seeking a seat in the official presidential race) Andrew Yang wisely showed a well-focused mind when faced with the impeachment question and the other way around. From his rivals, he has usually distanced himself from the rising tide of attacks and has shown Americans that taking a different path is the best solution so that all problems are more likely to be solved more quickly and efficiently.
Yang criticized Congress and the general media for "missing the reason why Donald Trump became our president in the first place". Endorsing his distancing speech about impeachment, he said: "When we're talking about impeaching Donald Trump, we're talking about Donald Trump and we're losing".
He keeps saying: "It's clear why Americans can't agree on impeachment, we're getting our news from different sources, and it's making it hard for us to even agree on basic facts. Congressional approval, last time I checked, was something like 17 percent, and Americans don't trust the media networks to tell them the truth".
Going a little further, he tried to show his theory to explain how Donald Trump won the election: "If you turn on cable network news today, you would think he’s president because of some combination of Russia, racism, Facebook, Hillary Clinton, and emails all mixed together. But Americans around the country know different. The more we act like Donald Trump is the cause of all of our problems, we lose trust that we can actually see what is going on in our communities and solve those problems".
To voters who believe / defends the impeachment, Yang very was categorical (and what he said is kinda obivous): "Make no mistake, he'll be there at the ballot box for us to defeat". - Reinforcing the conclusion that this strategy of forcing his resignation from office is a utopia that does not will materialize and completed saying:
"What we have to do is we have to stop being obsessed over impeachment, which unfortunately strikes many Americans like a ballgame where you know what the score is going to be, and start actually digging in and solving the problems that got Donald Trump elected in the first place. We have to take every opportunity to present a new, positive vision for the country, a new way forward, to help beat him in 2020".
I fully agree with Yang's position (not only do I agree, but I think everything he said is extremely pertinent) because even here in my country (Brazil), the current president won the elections based on media work involving disconnected information , many lies spread across the internet and especially in the buzz that was created in his figure: a person who values the lack of argument, the ignorance and who wants to draw the spotlight to himself, thus meeting his personal interests. Here, the more we talked about him, the stronger he got and the result, unfortunately, was his victory in the elections.
So, in my point of view, Yang's view is very assertive because as long as people are betting on Trump's defeat through illusory impeachment... What is actually happening is a strengthening of him towards his own base and giving him more time. news for everyone to get their attention back to what he is doing and with it, he may even increase his voting base (which for some reason may find some sort of identification with him).
Forgetting impeachment should be a must (it also means not providing firepower to the enemy), after all, there are bigger obstacles to be broken down. Yang has made that very clear, but people need to want to see this and focus on what really matters: changing the outcome of the upcoming elections without being influenced by the media or what parties are saying. Reading, studying, getting to know the candidates is crucial... Just as you need to pay attention to those who have visionary ideas and give them an opportunity to make a difference.
This is my most recent contribution (it's the 6th post on this support journey) to CAMPAIGN for a candidate who is being heavily repressed by mainstream media (and apparently has predefined letters in the political game) and has, primarily, a small group of alternative social media (however, all of them with great potential when it comes to making a big noise) to "pop up" his name everwhere.
