Rani pokhari which means queen's pond, is the historical pond situated on the heart of Kathmandu. This pond was built by the king Pratap Malla in 1670AD to console his queen who was distraught to grief after their son was trampled to death by an elephant. A temple dedicated to Matrikeshwor Mahadev stands at the center of the pond.
