This new year, I started a new daily challenge, The Positive Vibes Daily Challenge where I encouraged fellow Steemians to share their stories of love, hope adventure, fun, etc so as to spread positivity here. I must say this challenge has got to an encouraging start. I was reading the posts that which were part of the challenge and today being Saturday, the theme was love. I came across a lovely short post by on loving yourself and this has inspired to write about the same topic which is self-love.
Self-love is very important as we tend to neglect our psychological needs even as we tend to physical needs. If we are hurt physically, we are quick to seek medical attention and help. In the same way, we need to seek help for our psychological or emotional hurts too. Those who practice self-love will tend to be happier, more confident and self-assured. They will have better capacity to love others. When they give, it is not from a place of sacrifice but from a place of abundance. They will be kinder to themselves, find it easier to forgive themselves if they made mistakes and generally treat themselves the way they would treat their best friend. Yes, we can be our own best friends and there is nothing wrong with that.
Therefore for 2018, I urge all of you to love yourself more. This is not that hard to do and I like to share 3 ways how you can practice self-love.The best way to love yourself is just to accept yourself the way you are with the quirks and warts. No one is perfect and your quirks and warts make you into a unique human individual. Do not let the opinions and expectations of others affect your self-worth.
Secondly, you need to prioritize self-care. This will mean allocating time for you to take care of yourself. This is sharpening of the saw as mentioned by Stephen Covey in his book "The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People". When you take better care of yourself, you will be able to achieve more and in a better position to face difficulties and obstacles.
Thirdly you need to celebrate any milestones or success that you achieved. Even if you did not receive any praise from your colleagues or superiors for a job well done, remember to pat yourself on the back. Reward yourself if you have done well. You deserved that spa or get a massage.
