Wednesday.
Lets take a walk. A #wednesdaywalk.
The idea of taking you on a tour of the ugliest, weirdest or most grotesque front yards in the neighbourhood has been brewing with me for a while.
But today's title image is already a good indicator for how well that went today. It's just a heavily edited crop of the image below.
I think this must have been the "garden" that initially started the rough idea of documenting these weird compositions. But it doesn't really come across too well with that image. Behind these lions and the kitschy kissing couple are a pair of plastic moai, those easter island statues. Definitely an interesting kind of combination.
As I snapped the first pictures I realized this wouldn't go to well. Something I hadn't considered: It feels pretty damn awkward to stand in front of somebody's house taking pictures of their property.
Then again, isn't it the purpose of a front yard to be seen by everyone. Hmmm... I guess if I had some honest admiration for these motives it might feel less weird to stand there and look for a good angle... it would probably still feel weird, though.
It's funny to imagine someone investing time and labour into putting up a buddha statuette surrounded by windmill-ducks and solar LEDs in such a manner.
But I really didn't get into a better mood trying to hastily snap some pictures of bad taste and so I eventually just went back for a breath of forest air.
Nature still has the prettiest of all front yards.
Thanks for your time!
