One thing that has always bothered me about the public education system in my country is the lack of practical lessons. The way of studying and the organization of a school have changed little since I was a student. It usually happens in much the same way in many places around the world: there's a classroom where children or teenagers must sit, taking necessary notes while the teacher stands at the front, writing the content on the board or just dictating it.
Students need to pay attention to learn, even when the subject is presented to them in a monotonous and constant manner, often making them feel extremely drowsy. It's the students who must adapt to the teacher, and not the other way around. Undoubtedly, if I could change something in the education system of my country, it would be this teaching format.
I believe that hands-on learning in different environments makes it easier for a person to absorb content. Imagination is a great ally in learning, and when a person is encouraged to imagine and think about a subject through analogies, the learning experience becomes much more enjoyable. I definitely believe that being relaxed is an essential emotional state for a student.
Being relaxed doesn't mean you will lose focus on the subject or not take the content seriously. Rather, it seems to be a suitable emotional state for learning. Unfortunately, in most schools in Brazil, it's impossible to be relaxed during a class. Since teachers' salaries are generally not good, they don't feel motivated enough to be creative and often become robotic.
In high school, most of my teachers were boring and intimidating. The school I attended was a military one, so many of those teachers were from the military. In their classes, we had to pay attention with seriousness. We didn't have field trips, we didn't have classes in different environments; everything was done in the same way. There were two teachers who were more relaxed, who took a sense of humor into account while teaching, and obviously, I had much better grades in the subjects taught by these teachers. Because I felt more at ease, I could be myself, and I can assure you that my friends felt the same way and had similar results.
Teaching my daughter to do her homework a few months ago, I came to the conclusion that I didn't like teaching. When I was younger and had to help my younger brother with his homework, I also felt the same way. Teaching is tedious, especially when the subject seems obvious to you, but not to someone else. You really need to think of ways to help that other human being understand. It's not easy. But, the moment I started using analogies and playful methods to teach my daughter, I realized how much fun it could be for both of us.
I believe that many teachers lack this effort. Many of them have lost their creativity and don't feel motivated to find it to produce lighter lessons. However, the biggest blame lies with the system that doesn't motivate them with decent salaries, doesn't invest in education, and doesn't create action plans for schools. When I was younger, I had very few field trips, and when there were such trips, they often turned into mere outings rather than actual learning experiences. Being inside a classroom was so stressful for teachers that during "field trips," they too just wanted to relax and didn't teach much.
Believe me when I say the problem of education in Brazil has deep-rooted issues. Observing how things work here makes you believe that this problem might actually be a deliberate plan. It is in the interest of the powerful that children and teenagers give up on education and prefer low-paying jobs that don't require a minimum level of schooling. It is in the interest of the system for people to remain ignorant about how society functions. This is why public education in Brazil depends on a few superhero teachers who think outside the box, teachers who receive low salaries but still have the mission of shaping young minds. Unfortunately, they are few in number. The truth is that education in Brazil is adrift, and there is no one with the power and will to save it.

Uma coisa que sempre me incomodou no sistema educacional público do meu país é a falta de aulas práticas. A forma de se estudar e a organização de uma escola mudou pouco da época em que eu era estudante até agora. Normalmente acontece da mesma forma em muitos lugares do mundo: Existe uma sala de aula, onde as crianças ou adolescentes devem ficar todos sentados, fazendo as anotações necessárias enquanto o professor fica lá na frente, escrevendo o conteúdo no quadro ou apenas ditando.
Os alunos precisam prestar atenção para aprender, mesmo o assunto sendo passado a eles de forma monótona e constante a ponto de deixá-los muitas vezes morrendo de sono. É preciso que os alunos se adaptem ao professor, e não o professor se adaptar aos diversos tipos de alunos. Sem dúvida se eu pudesse mudar algo no sistema educacional do meu país, seria esse formato de ensino.
Penso que o ensino lúdico em ambientes diferentes fazem com que uma pessoa absorva mais facilmente um conteúdo. A imaginação é uma ótima aliada na aprendizagem, e quando uma pessoa é estimulada a imaginar e pensar um assunto através de alegorias, a experiência de aprendizado será muito mais divertida. E eu definitivamente acredito que estar relaxado é um estado emocional imprescindível para um aluno.
Estar relaxado não significa que você irá se desfocar do assunto, ou que não levará o conteúdo a sério. Mas, parece ser um estado emocional adequado para aprender. Infelizmente, na maioria das escolas do Brasil é impossível estar relaxado durante uma aula. Como normalmente o salário dos professores não é bom, eles não se sentem motivados o suficiente para serem criativos e consequentemente se tornam robotizados.
No ensino médio, a maioria dos meus professores eram chatos e intimidadores. A escola onde estudei era militar. Então muitos daqueles professores eram militares. Nas aulas da maioria deles, tínhamos que prestar atenção com seriedade. Não tínhamos aulas de campo, não tínhamos aulas em ambientes diferentes, tudo era feito da mesma forma. Existiam dois professores que eram mais tranquilos, que levavam o bom humor em consideração ao darem aula, obviamente minhas notas eram muito melhores nas matérias desses professores. Porque eu me sentia mais tranquila, eu podia ser eu mesma, e posso garantir que meus amigos se sentiam da mesma forma além de terem resultados parecidos com os meus.
Ensinando minha filha a fazer o dever de casa há alguns meses, cheguei a conclusão de que não gostava de ensinar. Quando eu era mais nova e tinha que ajudar meu irmão mais novo com o dever de casa eu também pensava assim. Ensinar é chato, principalmente quando pra você o assunto parece óbvio, e pra outra pessoa não parece. E você realmente precisa pensar em maneiras de ajudar aquele outro ser humano a entender. Não é fácil. Mas, no momento em que eu comecei a fazer alegorias e brincadeiras ao ensinar minha filha, percebi o quanto pode ser divertido para mim e para ela.
Acredito que falta esse esforço dos professores, muitos deles perderam sua criatividade e não se sentem motivados a buscá-la para poderem produzir aulas mais leves. Porém, a culpa maior é do sistema que não os motiva com bons salários, que não investe em educação e que não cria planos de ação para as escolas. Quando eu era mais nova eu tive pouquíssimas aulas de campo, e quando haviam essas aulas, acabam se tornando passeios e não aulas. Estar dentro de uma sala de aula era tão estressante para os professores também, que quando tinha ‘’aula de campo’’ eles também só queriam se distrair e não ensinavam quase nada.
Acreditem quando eu digo: o problema da educação no Brasil tem raízes profundas. Observar como as coisas acontecem por aqui nos fazem acreditar que na verdade esse problema se trata de um projeto. É do interesse dos poderosos que crianças e adolescentes desistam de estudar, que prefiram ter um subemprego que não exija escolaridade mínima. É do interesse do sistema, que as pessoas cresçam burras a respeito de como a sociedade funciona. É por isso que a educação pública do Brasil depende de professores super heróis, fora da caixa, professores que recebem um salário baixo mas que mesmo assim tem a missão de ajudar a construir mentes de pessoas. Infelizmente eles são poucos… A verdade é que a educação no Brasil está à deriva, e não há quem tenha poder e queira salvá-la.
