Las semifinales de la sexta edición del Clásico Mundial de Béisbol terminaron ayer y la escena está lista para la batalla final entre los locales y la vinotinto, quienes desbancaron cerradamente a sus oponentes para discutir quién será el nuevo rey del béisbol a nivel mundial
En la primera semifinal acontecida el pasado domingo, el conjunto de las barras y las estrellas venció por la mínima dos carreras por una a los chicos de República Dominicana en un juego que tuvo de todo: jugadas espectaculares, cómo las de Bobby Witt Jr y Julio Rodríguez robándole un vuelacercas al Juez; jugadas controversiales, cómo la de no mandar a la goma a Austin Wells con la carrera del empate en el séptimo episodio y el último strike del juego con una bola al piso a Geraldo Perdomo. Las carreras del juego todas fueron a base de jonrones, la única carrera Dominicana fue salida del bate del aguatero Junior Caminero ante el CY Young de la Liga Nacional, Paul Skenes en la baja de la segunda entrada. Los americanos, dirigidos por Mark de Rosa, ripostaron en el cuarto episodio con sendos vuelacercas de Gunnar Henderson y del novato sensación de los Red Sox, Roman Anthony, ante los envíos del abridor Luis Severino y el relevista Gregory Soto, a la postre perdedor del partido. De esta manera los estadounidenses se convierten en el primer país en asistir a tres finales consecutivas de los Clásicos Mundiales
En la otra semifinal, escenificada en la jornada de ayer la Venezuela de Salvador Pérez y compañía remontaron y desbancaron a la sorpresiva Italia para instalarse en su primera final en la historia de estos eventos, mejorando su actuación de la segunda edición de estos Clasicos, celebrado en el año 2009 cuando perdieron ante Japón, a la postre ganador de esa edición en semifinales. Los italianos salieron delante en el marcador ante los envios del jóven Keider Montero, quien solo transito un inning y un tercio solamente dejando el juego 2-0 en contra. Por el lado del país de la bota se encaramó en la lomita en un cambio de última hora el AS de Phillies, Aaron Nola, quien caminó cuatro episodios para dejarle la escena lista a Michael Lorenzen, a la postre el lanzador derrotado del choque, quien vino a relevar para pegar el juego a las entradas finales y darle paso al relevo, pero en el séptimo los venezolanos se reviraron e hicieron alarde de contacto y velocidad en las bases para fabricar el paquete de cuatro anotaciones que a la postre fue el definitivo. Ángel Zerpa ganó el partido con relevazo de lujo al dominar a Jakob Mersee y a Vinnie Pasquantino con las bases llenas en el sexto episodio para que Italia no se despegará en el marcador y la vinotinto pudiera reaccionar y llevarse el gato al agua
