I woke up yesterday to a nice message from HiveBuzz....
Yes, I've been on Hive for a whole year ! So I thought it would be good to take stock of where that has got me to, both in tangible terms, and the intangible things.
HIVE Account Growth
The most tangible aspect of a year of activity on Hive is the growth in my account. Starting with nothing apart from a delegation from Ecency to get me started, I've put fiat into both HIVE and HBD, and earned rewards for author, curation and delegation.
Here's a little table of the account growth;
As you can see, I've actually spent more fiat on HIVE than the account is currently worth - even though I've aimed to buy dips, quite a few of my purchases were at prices far higher than today's price. Crypto in general has had a thoroughly torrid year throughout 2022, so every dip has been followed by an exciting new deeper dip !
I'm not too worried though, because I'm starting to see the real benefits of compounding with a growing level of Hive Power. Current break even is when HIVE hits a price of around £0.44, but that improves with every low-cost purchase I make.
HBD is in a better position because it's held it's peg remarkably well through the year. With a 20% rate of return I plan to keep buying into it periodically even though the price is relatively high in comparison to HIVE.
I haven't covered Tribe Tokens here; I've had some growth with them but apart from LEO haven't really focused heavily on them (yet...)
The way I look at the account overall is that to grow HIVE to 3189 in a year is a good accomplishment, and means that by the time I hit my second Hive Birthday, I should just be getting to Dolphin status.
The Intangible Growth
During the year, I have discovered a huge number of intangible benefits to Hive. Here are just a few of them....
- It's made me realise how toxic legacy social media has become. Hive is far, far less toxic.
- The lack of toxicity here means I've reduced my activity on legacy platforms very significantly, which has had significant mental health benefits.
- Hive has helped me learn so much about the crypto world and how it all works.
- Pushing myself a bit to keep up the posting rate has been good for self-discipline, and has really helped me get back into doing more creative writing.
- The community-based structure of Hive is fabulous, and I've found some wonderfully supportive communities. In addition to LeoFinance, my favourites (in no particular order of preference) are Worldbuilding, Freewriters and Tabletop / DND. Additionally, #SaturdaySavers (which is a sub-group within Leo rather than a formal community within Hive) has been awesome as a source of inspiration, support and self-discipline.
- I've been lucky enough to find new friends all around the world, and to be able to contribute with delegations and support to a community set up by some of them.
So all in all, Hive has definitely been a good influence in my life, and a thoroughly enjoyable place to hang out. It has helped me build a financial reserve and allowed me to earn crypto in a painless way through social media activity (nice to be a creator rather than just a product !).
Thank you to everyone I've met along the way who has made it so much fun, and long may it continue !
