Visiting the old city Genova, Italy [ENG-SPA]

On our way my boyfriend bought me lollipops, I'm addicted to sweets and this is how I've curbed my craving for sweets a bit. It's worth noting that this is just the packaging, inside this there are 10 lollipops 🤣.

We traveled on November 25, 2021 from Sete, France for about 5 hours by road to the ancient city of Genoa.

Genoa is in Italy, has a relevance and importance for the history of this country, its location with out of the Mediterranean Sea, allowed the economic - commercial expansion, thanks to its calm waters it grew and expanded as a commercial epicenter for more than 1500 years, the use of the coasts minimized costs and losses when transporting goods, also experienced situations of rivalry with other cities and countries for the privilege of dominating the European markets, which led to the consolidation of its naval development.

Believe me, for me being in Genove was really fascinating. Throughout my university career (economics) I was fascinated by the European trade, and of course the history, written with appropriations and blood; although this is what the history of the world has been about, to think that when the colonists arrived in Venezuela, we were on our tails, hunting animals and eating pira (a very common plant in Venezuela).

I visited Genoa thanks to my boyfriend Jan, and with the company of his dog Ayah, they have been my hosts in Europe. I like our adventure team

A lo largo de mi carrera universitaria (economía) me fascinaba el comercio europeo, y por supuesto la historia, escrita con apropiaciones y sangre; aunque de esto se ha tratado la historia del mundo, pensar que cuando los colonos llegaron a Venezuela, nosotros estábamos en tapa rabo, cazando animales y comiendo pira (planta muy común en Venezuela).
Génova la visité gracias a mi novio Jan, y con la compañía de su perrita Ayah, ellos han sido mis anfitriones en Europa. Me gusta nuestro equipo de aventuras

We stayed at a hotel in Genove called Columbus Sea Hotel, with an amazing view, relaxing and directly on the harbor, here we enjoyed beautiful sunsets and sunrises. The hotel is fully serviced, quite comfortable, and best of ALL, they have no problem with us having Ayah with us. This hotel is located only a 10 minute walk from the port and the historic center of Genoa.

Nos hospedamos en un hotel en Génova llamado Columbus Sea Hotel, con una asombrosa vista, relajante y directamente al puerto, aquí disfrutamos de bellos atardeceres y amaneceres. El hotel cuenta con todos los servicios, es bastante cómodo, y lo mejor de TODO, no tienen problemas con que tengamos a Ayah con nosotros. Este hotel está ubicado solo a 10 minutos caminando del puerto y del centro histórico de Génova.

Genove has too much history in every corner, the structures look very old but preserved, everything is painted perfectly. There is too much commerce and of course tourism, there are fascinating squares, libraries, universities that you see at a glance walking through the streets. The port is a very touristic place too, there is a lot of history that is told through tours and sites built especially for this, there is a very famous aquarium, there are "pirate" boats, there is a submarine in its waters that tells many stories. There are several "castles" (palazzos) constituted today as museums that store wealth (I could not visit them because with Ayah it is not easy to enter these places).

We left the hotel wanting to see some history and new places, so we quickly found on the way what appeared to be a vertical park, and I say vertical, because they were like floors, one on top of the other, and not a plain. It is a recreational park that serves to walk with your pets (you should always keep them on a leash), or play with your children, it is not a place where you can run, but if you are going to find some parts of structures that tell stories, it is quite hidden, at first glance it does not look like a park, it is a place where you can relax.

Génova tiene demasiada historia en cada rincón, las estructuras parecen muy antiguas pero conservadas, todo está pintado perfectamente. Hay demasiado comercio y por supuesto turismo, hay fascinantes plazas, bibliotecas, universidades que ves a simple vista caminando por las calles. El puerto, es un lugar muy turístico también, hay mucha historia que se cuenta a través de tours y sitios construidos especialmente para esto, hay un acuario muy famoso, hay embarcaciones “piratas”, hay un submarino en sus aguas que cuenta muchas historias. Hay varios “castillos” (palazzos) constituidos hoy día como museos que almacenan riquezas (no pude visitarlos porque con Ayah no es fácil entrar a estos lugares).

Salimos desde el hotel con ganas de conocer un poco de historia y lugares nuevos, por lo que rápidamente encontramos en el camino lo que parecía ser una parque vertical, y digo vertical, porque eran como pisos, uno encima del otro, y no una planicie. Es un parque recreativo que sirve para caminar con tus mascotas (debes tenerlas siempre con correa), o jugar con tus hijos, no es un lugar donde puedes correr, pero si vas a encontrar algunas partes de estructuras que cuentan historias, está bastante escondido, a simple vista no parece un parque, es un lugar donde puedes relajarte.

All our reconnaissance was walking, and although I did not take all the pictures I wanted, I was more fascinated in the landscapes, and I would love to be a better photographer, I think that out of 10 pictures I take I only store 1, the phone takes very good pictures but I still do not learn all the tricks I should to improve.

We continue walking some streets, seeing roofs, appreciating the architecture of the structures, many stores open, and a lot of active commerce. It seems that the COVID-19 here is not in the same situation as a year ago, a lot of people are without masks. A year ago the news in Italy was alarming with high numbers of infections and deaths.

Todos nuestros reconocimientos fueron caminando, y aunque no tomé todas las fotos que quería, estaba más fascinada en los paisajes, y me encantaría ser mejor fotógrafa, creo que de 10 fotos que tomo solo almaceno 1, el teléfono saca muy buenas fotos pero yo aun no aprendo todos los trucos que debería para mejorar.
Seguimos recorriendo algunas calles, viendo techos, apreciando la arquitectura de las estructuras, muchas tiendas abiertas, mucho comercio activo, parece que el COVID-19 aquí no está en la misma situación que hace un año atrás, muchísima gente está sin mascarillas. Hace un año atrás las noticias en Italia eran alarmantes con las altas cifras de infectados y muertes.

We arrived at a place called Belvedere Don Ga, it is very similar to a lookout - or a small square, here you can enjoy a wonderful view from a high point of the city, there is a small map that shows you the tourist sites that you should visit, you can also rest, take a little sun, take pictures, if you go by car you can park on the street, but I recommend walking, because sometimes you can find everything very full and have to park far away from this place.

Llegamos a una lugar llamado Belvedere Don Ga, es muy similar a un mirador - o a una pequeña plaza, aquí puedes disfrutar de una vista maravillosa desde un punto alto de la ciudad, hay un pequeño mapa que te muestra los sitios turísticos que deberías visitar, también puedes descansar, tomar un poco de sol, sacarte fotos, si vas en carro puedes estacionarte en la calle, pero yo recomiendo ir caminando, pues en ocasiones puedes encontrar todo muy lleno y tener que estacionarte muy lejos de este lugar.

After walking through some streets, alleys and places a bit confusing (taken like from a movie) we stopped to eat at a place called Il Fabbro, located in Piazza delle Vigne, in front of the Basilica di Santa Maria delle Vigne. A very simple and tasty place. You can see from Ayah's face that she was very interested in the bread at the place.

Después de recorrer algunas calles, callejones y lugares un poco confusos (sacados como de película) nos detuvimos a comer en un lugar llamado Il Fabbro, ubicado en la Piazza delle Vigne, frente a la Basilica di Santa Maria delle Vigne. Un sitio muy sencillo y sabroso. Pueden ver en la cara de Ayah que estaba muy interesada en el pan del lugar.

We walked a little more and arrived at a very famous and popularly known as a "top" area in Genoa, Piazza de Ferrari, is the main square of Genoa, is a square with many structures around, not only architectural but also with restaurants, famous places, buildings, banks, is called this way because it is dedicated to Rafael De Ferrari, a duke, who his years donated a lot of money for the expansion and improvement of the port of the city. Something that caught my curious attention is that in the surrounding "office" buildings there are golden plaques with the name of professionals who provide their services (doctors, dentists, lawyers, etc.), it is like the "advertising" of the place, nothing extravagant and all ruled by the same sculpture, even in some places you could see the age of the services.

Caminamos un poco más y llegamos a un sitio muy famoso y conocido popular como una zona "top" en Génova,Piazza de Ferrari, es la plaza principal de Génova, es una plaza con muchas estructuras alrededor, no solo arquitectónica sino también con restaurantes, famosos lugares, edificios, bancos, es llamada de esta forma porque está dedicada a Rafael De Ferrari, un duque, que sus años donó muchísimo dinero para la ampliación y mejoras del puerto de la ciudad. Algo que me llamó mi curiosa atención es que en los edificios de “oficinas” en los alrededores hay placas doradas con el nombre de profesionales que prestan sus servicios (médicos, odontólogos, abogados, etc.), es como la “publicidad” del lugar, nada extravagante y todos regidos por la misma escultura, incluso en algunos lugares se lograban ver la antigüedad de los servicios.

We continued our tour until we found a crossroads where we could find several parks and squares, among them there was a statue of Christopher Columbus, I did not take pictures because I am a proud, but the truth is that everything is history and would have been very useful for this story (I started recently with this blog and I never dare to share with anyone, but with my close ones the photos taken, but I have changed my thinking a lot in recent months, just a little more flexible).

Christopher Columbus was a conquistador known worldwide as the one who "discovered" Venezuela (my country). Columbus was born and raised in Genoa until he was 23 years old, he left behind an expansive city, one that today pays homage to him with squares and sculptures. - Many people are unaware that Columbus was Italian, and associate from his expeditions that he was Spanish.

At this crossroads we were able to visit some sites that we liked and wanted to share moments here. First we walked to the Spianata dell'Acquasola park, where wonderfully I saw some people throwing frisbees with a baby, and many people with their families and dogs, it seemed a very nice place, we could also enjoy a nice sun bath, because the weather was cold, but the sun was wonderful, this park has little shops, a cafe, tables, chairs and ping pong tables, quite nice, I loved it. We left from here to our next place: Villeta Di Negro, it is a botanical garden style or natural park, with wonderful scenery, it has a beautiful waterfall (obviously it is made for the garden), and very nice space, I loved this place, it has a spectacular view from the top, and like some parks in Italy, it is also vertical. If you have the opportunity to go to Genova I recommend you to visit this place, it is wonderful.

Continuamos nuestro recorrido hasta encontrar una encrucijada a donde podíamos conseguir diversos parques y plazas, entre ellas había una estatua de Cristóbal Colón, no le saque fotos porque soy una orgullosa, pero la verdad es que todo es historia y hubiera sido muy útil para este cuento (empecé hace poco con este blog y nunca me atrevo a compartir con alguien, mas que con mis cercanos las fotos que tomó, pero he modificado mucho mi pensamiento en los últimos meses, solo un poco más flexible).

Cristóbal Colón fue un conquistador conocido mundialmente como el que “descubrió” Venezuela (mi país). Colón nació y se crió en Génova hasta sus 23 años de edad, dejó atrás una expansiva ciudad, una que hoy día le rinde homenaje con plazas y esculturas. - Muchas personas ignoran que Colón era italiano, y asocian por sus expediciones que era español.

En esta encrucijada pudimos visitar algunos sitios que nos gustaron y quisimos compartir momentos aquí. Primero caminamos hasta el parque Spianata dell’Acquasola, donde maravillosamente vi a algunas personas lanzando frisbees con un bebe, y a muchas personas con sus familias y perritos, parecía un lugar muy agradable, también pudimos disfrutar de un rico bañito de sol, porque había un clima con aire frío, pero el sol estaba maravilloso, este parque tiene tienditas, un café, mesas, sillas y unas mesas de ping pong, bastante agradable, me encanto. Salimos de aquí hacia nuestro próximo lugar: Villeta Di Negro, es un estilo de jardin botanico o parque de natural, con escenarios maravillosos, tiene una hermosa cascada de agua (obviamente esta elaborado para el jardín), y espacio muy agradables, este lugar me encantó, tiene una vista desde lo mas alto espectacular, y al igual que algunos parques en Italia, tambien es vertical. Si tienes la oportunidad de ir a Genova te recomiendo visitar este lugar, es maravilloso.

We passed several times through the port, where you can see large and small boats of all kinds, commercial, tourist, historical, educational; in the port there are many activities to do, there are several buildings, there is the Aquarium (it seems to be a very famous place), there are also tickets to a few tourist attractions, such as a transparent elevator, a pirate ship (which looks very childish) we did not go into these places.

Pasamos en varias oportunidades por el puerto, donde se aprecian grandes y pequeñas embarcaciones de todo tipo, comerciales, turísticas, históricas, educativas; en el puerto hay muchas actividades que hacer, hay varios edificios, está el Aquario (pareciera ser un lugar muy famoso), también se ofrecen entradas a unas cuantos atractivos turísticos, como un ascensor transparente, un barco pirata (que se ve muy infantil) no nos adentramos en estos lugares.

I also appreciated in different places, culture, art, music, wherever you walk you will find urban artists, people painting pictures, in different techniques, human mimes, singers, musicians, I even saw a car decorated with "Genoese buildings and many plants" (summarizing the culture).

There is a need to make it clear that urban agriculture has a lot of participation, in almost every house, on the roofs, in the windows, even in a little corner they produce some of their food or species. I got to enjoy shows of collective gardens, or family gardens, they are spaces where they rent tents and produce their own food, the truth is that I did not investigate in depth about this, I think maybe I had to spend a few more days to start asking people about their plants and their crops.

También aprecie en distintos lugares, la cultura, el arte, la música, a donde se que camines vas a encontrar artistas urbanos, personas pintando cuadros, en diferentes técnicas, mimos humanos, cantantes, músicos, llegue a ver un auto decorado con los “tipos edificios genoveses y muchas plantas” (resumiendo la cultura).

Hay una necesidad de dejar claro que la agricultura urbana tiene mucha participación, en casi todas las casas, en los techos, en las ventanas, hasta en un rinconcito producen algo de sus alimentos o especies. Llegué a disfrutar de espectáculos de huertos colectivos, o familiares, son espacios donde alquilan tiendas y producen sus propios alimentos, la verdad no investigué a profundidad sobre esto, creo que tal vez tuve que pasar algunos días más para empezar a preguntarle a las personas por sus matas y sus cultivos.

We were a little hungry and we sat down in a nice place, it was quite crowded, we waited a few minutes to be able to sit at a table, where the sun was shining, a little contradictory for me coming from Venezuela and we are always running away from the sun exposure because you end up black as a caraota, the place seemed a bit popular, it is called Settepolpette, I remember that everything on the menu, EVERYTHING, was served in balls, they were balls that contained all the condiments and spices that were used, the service was good and most importantly we were able to be with Ayah without any problem.

After sightseeing during the day we stayed for a few hours in a small and simple place, honestly I prefer places like this, quiet, without many people, or at least quality people. This place is called Caffetteria Bar Lavazza, and is located in an epicenter of businesses and stores, there is something for everyone, but this was my favorite place, and I think it was one of the best moments I spent here, my boyfriend Jan is wonderful, we had some good conversations, as the evening began to fall the temperature dropped and I ended up buying about 10 scarves for him, for Ayah and for me, so no one would die of cold and we could spend some more time outside sharing. Here we drank some wine, Ayah made a human friend with whom she seemed to have an affinity, we also made a friend who although I don't remember his name, was wonderful to meet! He was an older gentleman of about 70 years old, maybe more, very educated, Italian, he knew a little Spanish, the gentleman was very nice, he bought us food because we had to taste the delicacies of the area, in the places he knew and considered the best, and being even more wonderful, he bought canned food and cookies for Ayah, the truth is that this gentleman, was an excellent host at this time! A Chilean man also came to talk to us and tell us some stories about how he came to Italy escaping from the government of Augusto Pinochet in Chile.

Teniamos un poco de hambre y nos sentamos en un lugar agradable, estaba bien lleno, esperamos algunos minutos para poder sentarnos en una mesa, donde estuviera dando el sol, un poco contradictorio para mi que vengo de Venezuela y siempre le estamos huyendo a la exposicion de sol porque terminas negro como una caraota, el sitio parecia un poco popular, se llama Settepolpette, recuerdo que todo en el menu, TODO, estaba servidos en bolitas, eran bolas que contenian todos los condimentos y especias, que se utilizaban, el servicio fue bueno y lo más importante pudimos estar con Ayah sin ningun problema.

Después de turistear durante el día nos quedamos por algunas horas en un sitio pequeño y sencillo, honestamente prefiero los lugares así, tranquilos, sin muchas personas, o al menos personas de calidad. Este lugar se llama Caffetteria Bar Lavazza, y está ubicado en un epicentro de negocios y comercios, hay para todos los gustos, pero este fue mi lugar favorito, y creo que fue de los mejores momentos que pase aquí, mi novio Jan es maravilloso, tuvimos unas buenas conversaciones, a medida que empezó a caer la tarde-noche bajo la temperatura y termino comprando como 10 bufandas para el, para Ayah y para mi, así ninguno moriria de frio y podríamos pasar otro rato mas afuera compartiendo. Aquí bebimos un poco de vino, Ayah hizo una amiga humana con la que parecía tener una afinidad, también hicimos un amigo que aunque no recuerdo su nombre, ¡fue maravilloso conocerlo!, era un señor mayor de unos 70 años, tal vez más, muy culto, italiano, sabía un poco de español, el señor muy agradable, nos compró comida porque teníamos que probar las exquisiteces de la zona, en los lugares que él conocía y consideraba como los mejores, y siendo mas maravilloso aun, compro comidas enlatadas y galletas para Ayah, la verdad es que este señor, ¡fue un excelente anfitrión en este momento! También se acercó un señor chileno a conversar con nosotros y a echarnos algunos cuentos de cómo llegó a Italia escapando del gobierno de Augusto Pinochet en Chile.

This place, wonderful, I loved it, I was very happy to write this post, because I could relive moments and situations that will always be with me in my heart.
