My Beautiful Serpentine Stone Carvings

El día de hoy quiero mostrarles como han sido algunos de mis tallados en piedra serpentina y así mismo mi avance y mejoría en mis tallados en general, pero antes de eso quiero dar una descripción de lo que es la piedra o mineral del grupo de las Serpentinas.

Today I want to show you how some of my serpentine stone carvings have been and also my progress and improvement in my carvings in general, but before that I want to give a description of what the stone or mineral of the Serpentine group is.

Las serpentinas constituyen un grupo de minerales que se caracterizan por no presentarse en forma de cristales, excepto en el caso de pseudomorfismo. Son productos de alteración de ciertos silicatos magnésicos, especialmente olivino, piroxenos y anfíboles.

¡Fue un Proceso difícil, pero aprendí rápido!

El primer día que aprendí se uso una máquina que en mi país le decimos esmeril de banco, se usa generalmente para trabajos de herrería pero en éste caso la usamos mi maestro y yo para el tallado, y debíamos tener un chorro constante de agua en el disco de la máquina ya que el agua cumple la función de hidratar la piedra y mantenerla a buena temperatura para que no se fracture y se caiga a pedazos.

It was a difficult process but I learned quickly!

The first day I learned I used a machine that in my country we call a bench grinder, it is generally used for blacksmith work but in this case my teacher and I used it for carving, and we had to have a constant stream of water on the disc of the machine because the water serves to hydrate the stone and keep it at a good temperature so that it does not fracture and fall apart.

That first day we carved and polished by hand two pendulums

Tiempo después que empecé a tallar, la máquina se dañó pero no fue impedimento para seguir aprendiendo y tallando, porque empecé a usar mi taladro drimer.

Some time after I started carving, the machine broke down but it didn't stop me from continuing to learn and carve, because I started using my drill driver.

Hay que ser cuidadoso al momento de tallar las piedras para no marcarlas mucho o agrietarlas y también mantener un chorro de agua constante para evitar el polvo y que la piedra no se caliente tanto.

You have to be careful when carving the stones so as not to mark them too much or crack them and also keep a constant stream of water to avoid dust and so that the stone does not get so hot.

Todo era un proceso manual, laborioso. Sin embargo, habitualmente, ¡el resultado valía el esfuerzo!

Everything was a manual, laborious process. However, usually, the result was worth the effort!

Las piezas hechas con mis piedras talladas tuvieron buena recepción entre mis clientes, al tiempo vendí la mayoría.

The pieces made with my carved stones were well received by my clients, and at the same time I sold most of them.

Apliqué varías técnicas de alambrismo y filigrana en mis tallados, también hacía trabajos personalizados al gusto del cliente.

I applied various wire and filigree techniques in my carvings, I also made personalized works according to the client's taste.

Es tan satisfactorio y gratificante cuando un cliente se va satisfecho y feliz con una pieza hecha desde cero, que le pusiste tanto empeño y dedicación.

It is so satisfying and rewarding when a customer leaves satisfied and happy with a piece made from scratch, that you put so much effort and dedication into.
