This prompt is pretty special as the illustration would be on the last page of my sketchbook! It’s time to open a new one! So far, this would be the third sketchbook I’ve finished up. I decided for the last page to be based on one of my favorite mangas of all time, Dorohedoro
Dorohedoro is the perfect mix of blood, gore, nudity, violence, the absurd, comedy, horror, the supernatural, and a huge huge dose of the value of friendship (lol). The author, Q Hayashida’s art style is pretty cool. There’s this energetic quality to her lines that I really love! The scene in the painting is where Shin is having so much fun bashing people’s heads in with a hammer. Both the anime and manga are pretty disturbing, but there’s just something about it that has you hooked on it. If you haven’t read or watched it, do so!
Process
I made use of Unipin ink pens, the Royal Talens Indian Ink and the last page of my Sinoart sketchbook
I created a rough sketch of my reference which was from a scene in the anime. The one thing I like about this frame, is the perspective. To preserve it, I completely shaded the character to the left. The shading made it recede further into background. I blocked many dark areas by shading with my ink pen. The last step was defining the light and dark areas with the liquid ink.
