I have started a projected that I would like to share with you all.
I have been on a mission to try and do my bit by recycling and I found a creative way of doing so with some old damaged pallets.
The pallets were sauced from a kitchen shop that had them piled high, they said that I could only take the broken ones as the the ones they had whole go back to their supplier to be reused.
I took 3 broken ones, thanked them very much and got on my way home.
The project took me about 4 hours to complete as I found it hard to take the pallets apart until I read that using a car jack between the panels made it a breeze.
The idea is to put your car jack between the panels and turn it so the top of the jack pushed the boards up, doing it this way took me about 20 minutes to take 2 pallets apart when using a hammer and crowbar took me an hour to take just one a part.
I had to remove the nails with a claw hammer, and I spent a little time sanding the panels down by hand, (I don't own a electric sander :C)
Then I spent some time measuring the panels to make sure they were the same size, the ones that was not I had to measure again and then cut them down to size.
then I had to decide what size I wanted the planter to be, it was kind of easy as i knew where it was going to go in my garden.
The legs were 16 inch and the width was 16 inch too.
I designed this to go on a the back wall of my out house to give my yard more colour. I used a nice wood treater to make sure that my planter last for a longer time, I chose a light wood colour as I wanted it to stand out in my yard.
I then lined the planter so that soil doesn't come out when I fill it, it was a harder job then I thought as I didn't have any help, it took some folding and stapling to get it to stay in place, but finally it was done.
Now I have got to get some compost as mine isn't ready to use yet, I have asked around at the allotments near me but people seem to have a need for it so I am having to buy some from the garden centre.
This will more than likely be friday now.
I have already got some nice flowers to go in the planter as I started growing these back in spring. I was told by the supplier that they were blue orchids but I don't think they are now the leafs have come through. we will have to see when they flower.
And this was my way of recycling/upcycling wood. I have more projects that I am wanting to do with wood pallets as I had great fun doing this and I think this helps the world, less waste as I have used 95% of the pallets, the nails were knackered so they have had to go into the recycling bin for metals.
The lump wood that separates the pallets have been put into a pile and will sawn into squares for another project that I am thinking of working on. I will show you this in another post.
