Over the years, when it comes to dominating the digital business space, Google has always had a wide advantage due to its search engine vast adoption which leads to it being the largest advertising network given the traffic volume it happens to control and the trust it has earned from users.
People have been asking before now if Google could ever be replaced by anything, but the competition was never there even with the popularity of privacy browsers and its privacy search engines. None came close to Google and people simply did not care about any of them. But then came an AI, which nobody would have thought to earn this much attention like getting millions of users in a few days of launch.
What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is an AI that is trained to be conversational in delivering answers to people's queries. Unlike previously deployed AI systems like Google assistance and Apple Siri, which were trained to be conversational, ChatGPT is more advanced and delivers more technical responses to queries and can handle a load of input data, unlike even Google's search engine.
The bots ability to deliver technical responses to queries in seconds without breaking a sweat has made it popular, even tho it has had its own flaws, like the often discussed fact the it is not quite able to distinguish between facts and misinformation enough to make it utterly game changing but that's the thing with AI, it can simply only draw answers from the data it has fed on. Even Google bots simply cannot as all it does it crawl and index, if a large number of websites formed a gang to spread a hell of misinformation or harmful health tips, Google would serve this contents on its engine without subjecting to manual validity.
How Is ChatGPT a threat to Google Search Engine?
Well, first I'd say I simply do not know pretty much how Data is fed to this AI which would make it different from other AI and robots in the space, but the conversational aspect of it is frankly one of the features that has made people like it. ChatGPT, to me, is far from replacing Google search engine, but it does pose a threat which Google fears and this leads to it moving to develop its own AI.
As per numerous reports, starting with New York Times Google fears that a bot simply provides appropriate data for queries would highly affect its ad business which happens to bring it the most billions given how many people use its search engines. As many have previously speculated on AI's threat to individual jobs, it also poses a threat to large businesses. Google has issued a code red on the reliability of the chatbot and is moving to fast pace developing alternatives to stay in business.
Can ChatGPT replace Google?
Considering the current performance level for the AI, it is a handy tool, but people will always wish to cross check responses to validate, this is where Google search will have an upper hand. Being able to cite reputable sources is desirable but ChatGPT simply does not deliver that.
