The ideas that pop into our heads as children can be very hilarious. As an educator presently active in the field, I hear a lot of beautiful childhood dreams from a lot of children but something in me knows that a time will come when those dreams would have to pass through the fire of reality and when it does, only a few might be lucky to still be standing on the other side with their dreams fulfilled.
As a beautiful girl child, I remember telling my dad that I wanted to become a fairytale princess. My dad would lovingly ask me ”why?. I would reply with ”I want to live in a castle, eat good food and wear pretty ball gowns”. After listening to my reason, my dad would only laugh, nod his head and tell me to work hard.
Do you want to know why I wanted to become a fairytale princess?
Well, the answer is quite obvious isn't it? I watched a lot of fairytale cartoons as a child and I fell in love with Cinderella the most. I wanted to be swept off my feet by prince charming and live happily ever after, hehe.
My dad wanted me to become a Lawyer. He felt that my talkativeness could be put to good use in a court of Law. Moreover, I was very argumentative as a child (*maybe I still am😁). I always chose to defend my actions or even my childhood friends especially when they're about to be punished.
My mom on the other hand wanted me to go into the medical field but it wasn't until I watched a certain movie where a doctor refused attending to a patient because of money, leading to the patient's death that I began to incline towards the medical field.
My dream of law phased out after I learnt that lawyers keep on studying and never stopped. My little mind could not comprehend why someone would keep going to school non stop because of a chosen field. So I switched from fairytale princess to Lawyer and from Lawyer to a doctor.
It was no surprise when I was placed in science class in secondary school. I excelled in my science core subjects more than other subjects and it only solidified my dream of becoming a doctor the more. That was until I learnt that doctors have many branches. I began to research for which branch would suit me best and I ended up with Obstetrics & Gynecology.....sweet right? (Blane my love for babaies😁)
Well, life happened and somehow I was not able to go further in that line. I later studied Biological science in Education which is what I'm currently doing.
My dreams didn't die. I'm still a princess, you can verify by my username, hehe. I'm also still a Lawyer though not in a law court. I defend the defenseless in my own way and finally, I still get to pitch in my Ob&Gyn skills when I teach my students on reproduction and reproductive system 😁.
Maybe one day, I'll get to work in a hospital as an Ob&Gyn specialist. My dream won't fade away, rather it will live on.
Thank you all for reading. This is my entry to #sci-fimultiverse prompt #18.
