Let's face it, the reason governments are powerful is because they own virtually everything about you. They also have military might but those are people that can make choices of their own.
At the core of the government's power over the people, we have their control and manipulation of information. This information cuts across different aspects of our lives, ranging from your educational background to all your financial activities.
A fine example of how the government owns your ass was perfectly depicted in the situation between the truckers union and Canada.
As reported on multiple news outlets, the truckers union weren't pleased with certain decisions that the government has made. One particular issue that dominated the airwaves was the COVID mandate and that led to a standoff between the government and it's citizens.
There's really no need to go in-depth into the issue. However, all we need to take from this is that citizens of a country were protesting.
After a drawn-out protest, the government of Canada actually went on the offensive. As it was recorded on the news, the Canadian government, led by Justin Trudeau, went after the financials, and sustenance of individuals involved in the protest.
According to multiple reports, the government blocked the bank account of protesters. As if that wasn't enough, we also heard that any Canadian that supported the cause was also hounded in some way.
Note that this attack on the financials was taken after the government had tried intimidating the protesters with the military. So maybe the military don't have a choice.
I'm not here to pick a side in who is right or wrong in the nitty-gritty of the debacle. Hell, I don't know the full story but that's the thing though, you don't need the bigger picture to understand the real issue.
Zcash and privacy
We know bitcoin and most cryptocurrencies can't usually be traced to any particular human. However, the wallet transactions are all on a public ledger that we can all query for information.
This is why even in the conflict between Canadian government and the truckers union, some Bitcoin and Crypto donated to the cause we're also blocked. If only people knew about Zcash.
I've been putting in off for a while but I finally got to do some digging and Zcash seems like the solution for any protest.
Zcash is a cryptocurrencies on a blockchain that was forked out of Bitcoin Blockchain. It has been around for a while but has been slowly evolving in recent years.
Through the zero-knowledge proof and iterations of the technology, crypto can easily move around without being detected.
What it means is that unlike, say, Hive Blockchain, where everything is made public and I can track where Hive goes, Zcash doesn't allow you see transactions publicly.
So, what this means is that you can send and receive funds without triggering any alarm. Well, at least that's what the publication said.
Zcash, developed by ECC(Electric Coin Company), is still a work in progress. For starters, the official Zcash wallet only came into existence in 2019.
There are two types of Zcash wallets. There is the t-type and the z-type.
The t-type transactions are pretty much like what you'd get on a public ledger. However, transactions to and from the z-type wallets are encrypted at the blockchain level.
What this means is that you can technically transfer value from one wallet to another without leaving any digital footprint. This concept basically obliterates the idea of paper trail and whatnot.
So much power
The government's power over citizens is the ability to track our activities and that includes crypto. On the blockchain level, they could find your stuff if they tried hard enough and exchanges also make it a lot easier.
However, with Zcash, the money exists like it doesn't exist. You can support any cause you choose to, without fear of repercussions like people in Canada faced.
Naturally, there are downsides to having an untraceable digital asset. Off the top of your head, you can imagine the potential it has for laundering and payment for illegal activities but no need to dwell on that.
Fiat, oil, diamonds, precious metals and pretty much any other traceable valuable asset have been used for illicit activities. So beating Zcash with that stick is redundant.
What we know for sure is that there will be more protests in the future and the people of that society will need support from the public. Privacy coins like Zcash, Monero and any others will inevitably have an invisible front row seat in future protests and revolutions to come.
