Review and tips for your trip to Bologna, a captivating Italian city

Today I bring you a visit to an Italian city that I definitely fell in love with (like many of the cities in that country). It is Bologna.
This place has many particular I'd Andes that make it an exponent of Italian culture, and among them I will mention its reddish, orange and terracotta color throughout the city; the fact that it is home to the first Italian University, and also, a curious fact, is that it is full of arches and galleries that allow one to cross the city on a rainy day, without getting wet a single hair.

Hoy les traigo la visita a una ciudad italiana que definitivamente me enamoró (como muchas de las ciudades de aquel país). Se trata de Bolonia.
Este lugar tiene muchas particular I’d Andes que lo convierten en un exponente de la cultura italiana, y entre ellas mencionaré su color rojizo, anaranjado y terracota por toda la ciudad; el hecho de que sea hogar de la primera Universidad italiana, y además, un dato también curioso, es que está repleta de arcos y galerías que permiten que uno atraviese la ciudad un día de lluvia, sin mojarse un solo pelo.
If there is something that caught my attention in Bologna, it is that it has a very... compact downtown. The fact that it has these galleries, added to the Italian architecture of narrow streets, generate the sensation of a small and sometimes dark space.
It turns out that the buildings, although not too high, are very close to each other and that partly blocks the entrance of sunlight.
However, this quality, which I do not find the most striking, makes it very attractive and unique, as it offers an urban landscape that at least I had not seen before.
Si hay algo que me llamó mucho la atención de Bolonia, es que cuenta con un centro como muy… compacto. El hecho de que tenga estas galerías, sumado a la arquitectura italiana de calles estrechas, generan la sensación de un espacio pequeño y por momentos oscuros.
Resulta que las edificaciones, aunque no son demasiado altas, están muy cerca unas de otras y eso bloquea en parte el ingreso de la luz del sol.
Sin embargo, esta cualidad, que no me parece la más llamativa, la hace muy atractiva y única, ya que ofrece un paisaje urbano que al menos yo no había visto.
Bologna is, of the Italian cities I visited, the friendliest in terms of society, since we are talking about a fairly conservative country, where its people show to adhere to certain traditions and customs, but Bologna is a student city, where not only, as I mentioned previously, we have that first Italian university, but the educational world continued to expand to present us with a Bologna that becomes home to many students of different ages.
That makes the streets full of youth, of tattooed girls and boys, with colorful hair, with a relaxed and informal walk. And that is something I appreciated very much at that time, since I was visiting a serious Italy. Beautiful, no doubt, but very formal.
Bolonia es, de las ciudades italianas que visité, la más amable en cuanto a sociedad, ya que estamos hablando de un país bastante conservador, en donde su gente demuestra adherir a ciertas tradiciones y costumbres, pero Bolonia es una ciudad estudiantil, en donde no solo, como mencioné previamente, tenemos aquella primera universidad italiana, sino que el mundo educativo siguió expandiéndose hasta presentarnos a una Bolonia que se convierte en la casa de muchos estudiantes de diferentes edades.
Eso hace que las calles estén repletas de juventud, de chicas y chicos tatuados, con los pelos de colores, con un andar relajado e informal. Y eso, es algo que valoré mucho en aquel momento, ya que venía visitando a una Italia seria. Bellísima sin lugar a dudas, pero muy formal.
Among the places to visit in Bologna, I could mention some that I think are not to be missed, such as passing by the two medieval towers (I could not go up, but I recommend you do), called Garisenda and Asinelli; go to the beautiful Piazza del Nettuno, Piazza Maggiore and Piazza Cavour, where you will find, in front of it, an ice cream shop that I highly recommend visiting, called Cavour as well.
There is also another square: Piazza Santo Stefan's, with a fair at the end of the street and a church that give a very nice landscape to that part of the city.
I also definitely recommend a walk along the Vias Volturno and Ugo Bassi streets, where there are many ice cream parlors, cafes and places to relax for a while.
Entre los lugares que conocer en Bolonia, podría mencionarles algunos a mi parecer imperdibles, como pasar por las dos torres medievales (no pude subir, pero recomiendo que lo hagan), llamadas Garisenda y Asinelli; ir a la hermosa Piazza del Nettuno, a la Piazza Maggiore y a la Piazza Cavour, en donde encontrarán, frente a ella, una heladería que recomiendo mucho visitar, llamada Cavour también.
Además hay otra plaza: Piazza Santo Stefan’s, con una feria al finalizar la calle y una iglesia que brindan un paisaje muy bonito a esa parte de la ciudad.
También recomiendo definitivamente dar un paseo por las Vías (calles) Voltur
no y Ugo Bassi, en donde hay muchas heladerías, cafeterías y locales para distraerse un rato.
After a long walk through Bologna, it is almost mandatory to sit down for a drink or a delicious pizza or sandwich with prosciutto, Italian specialties that Bologna knows very well.
The time I recommend to enjoy this city and get to know it quietly, is three days. That is what I was there, and it even allowed me to visit a Sanctuary (Santuario della Madonna di San Luca) which is on the outskirts of the city and which I will tell you about on another occasion, since it was a full day trip.
Después de un largo paseo por Bolonia, es casi obligatorio sentarse a tomar algo o a comer una rica pizza o sandwich con jamón crudo, especialidades italianas que en Bolonia saben muy bien.
El tiempo que recomiendo para disfrutar de esta ciudad y conocerla tranquilamente, es de tres días. Eso es lo que estuve yo, y me permitió incluso visitar un Santuario (Santuario della Madonna di San Luca) que queda en las afueras de la ciudad y de el cual en otra ocasión les hablaré, ya que fue un paseo de todo un día.
