Oh wow, I didn't know that there was a limit to the lengths of posts! Anyway... it appears hat I managed to hit one and it means that I will be posting my thoughts on just the latest Humble Bundle drop only and pruning out the historical reference. That is a touch sad, as I was actually using the historical list to make sure that I wasn't purchasing games that I had unclaimed copies of in my Humble Bundle list! Ah well, I will still have it... but it is now offline for my own use only.
So, another year, another 96 games to come! The list of shame gets longer... I can't believe how many years I've been with Humble Bundle, and how many great games have been dropped to me... and as a legacy subscriber, I get a pretty decent deal out of it!
Anyway, this the drop for the month of January 2023., my thoughts follow:
DOOM Eternal
Tribes of Midgard
Encased: A Sci-Fi Post-Apocalyptic RPG
OLLIOLLI WORLD RAD EDITION
Grow: Song of the Evertree
Conan Chop Chop
Hokko Life
The Serpent Rogue
Heh heh... the leading game is DOOM Eternal! Ah, that brings back fond memories of university halls and late evenings of playing the original Doom and Quake! By all accounts, the newer Doom games are more scary than ever... and will likely push my laptop. But I'm definitely going to keep this one for myself, out of nostalgia if nothing else! And sometimes, you just need a brainless shooter to release some stress! Teehee... I feel like a little kid again!
Tribes of Midgard seems like an interesting game. Survival ARPG Roguelike with basebuilding.... there does seem to be quite a lot going for it and it does seem like a game that would suit the Steam Deck perfectly! Positive player reviews and a ton of industry awards makes me really want to give it a go! I think that this is the perfect game for me, so I'm definitely keeping and claiming this one!
Oh, will I never learn? I bought Encased on a Steam sale a few months ago... and now it appears on the Humble Bundle! This keeps happening, and I should just STOP buying games directly! In fact, I mostly have... but every now and then, I succumb! Anyway, a Tactical Sci-Fi RPG... this looks pretty damn cool to me! A nice change from the Fantasy ones at least! Anyway, to the game store... for someone else to enjoy!
Olli Olli World (with DLC)... a skateboarding platformer... hmmm, I really don't like platformers, but my kids do... and the little one is really getting into skateboarding, so I think I'm going to just claim this one for her!
Grow: Song of the Evertree... I don't even know how to describe this one! Growing a world from a seed and nature it to life? This is crazy weird, but it just looks absolutely adorable! My oldest is really into Animal Crossing, and this looks like something that belongs on the Switch... actually, now that I look a little closer, it has also been released on the Switch. I think this is the sort of well crafted beautiful game that I want my girls to grow up playing, so I'm keeping this one!
Conan Chop Chop, multiplayer hack and slash... nope... and party roguelike? Well, anything that describes as "party" is already on negative terms with me! To the game store with you... for someone who is more of a party animal.
Hokko Like is not Animal Crossing... but seeing as Animal Crossing won't likely get a PC port... this is Animal Crossing for the PC! Sigh... not for me, but maybe my girls will like it, it looks much better than Animal Crossing... but I don't think you can ever replace the original! Probably will give this one a pass... how many life-sims can you possibly have?
Serpent Rogue is another action style game like Conan Chop Chop, but it is single player and it has this really dark looking setting! I'm intrigued, just the art style and setting got me interested! Not sure if it will actually be any good, but the screenshots look really cool! I'm keeping this one!
