Hi girls, this is my first post in the community that has nothing to do with the contest of the week. I wanted to post here because I am going to touch on a very important topic for all women and that is the care of our health and the annual checkup that we should do for the prevention of diseases that can reduce our quality of life. So I am going to tell you my personal experience.

Quería publicar aquí por que voy a tocar un tema muy importante para todas las mujeres y es el cuidado de nuestra salud y el chequeo anual que debemos hacer para la prevención de enfermedades que pueden desmejorar nuestra calidad de vida. Así que les voy a contar mi experiencia personal.

A few months ago I started having menstrual pains, they were pains that prevented me from performing my daily activities, on several occasions I could not go to work because I felt I could not get out of bed, these pains were only relieved with very strong anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen 600 or 800 mg. In addition, I had missed my period last August. I knew I had to go to the doctor but sometimes women are afraid of receiving bad news, that happened to me, I think the fear of the doctor giving me bad news was stronger than the desire to find a solution to the problem.

Hace unos meses comencé a tener dolores menstruales, eran dolores que me impedían realizar mis actividades cotidianas, en varias ocasiones no pude ir a trabajar porque sentía que no podía levantarme de la cama, estos dolores sólo se aliviaban con antiinflamatorios muy fuertes como el ibuprofeno de 600 u 800 mg. Además, el pasado mes de agosto no había tenido la menstruación. Sabía que tenía que ir al médico pero a veces las mujeres tienen miedo de recibir malas noticias, eso me pasó a mí, creo que el miedo a que el médico me diera malas noticias era más fuerte que el deseo de encontrar una solución al problema.

Everything changed during the September vacations, when my husband insisted that I should go to the doctor and even got the phone number of a gynecologist. I no longer had any excuses for not going, I had the time and the contact. I contacted the doctor's assistant and made my appointment, which was not on a first-come, first-served basis, but by the hour, which I loved because I didn't have to wait long to go to the consultation and it was very fast.

Todo cambió durante las vacaciones de septiembre, cuando mi marido insistió en que debía ir al médico e incluso consiguió el número de teléfono de un ginecólogo. Ya no tenía excusas para no ir, tenía el tiempo y el número. Me puse en contacto con la asistente de la doctora y pedí mi cita, que no era por orden de llegada, sino por horas, algo que me encantó porque no tuve que esperar mucho tiempo para ir a la consulta y fue muy rápido

I told the doctor everything but at first glance she could not diagnose me and did the routine tests, vaginal ultrasound and cytology. When we talked she told me that she did not see anything wrong and did not understand why my menstrual cramps are so strong nor the delay in the month of August, I was not pregnant and apparently I am not close to menopause.

Se lo conté todo a la doctora pero a primera vista no pudo diagnosticarme y me hizo las pruebas rutinarias, ecografía vaginal y citología. Cuando hablamos me dijo que no veía nada malo y no entendía por qué mis dolores menstruales son tan fuertes ni el retraso en el mes de agosto, no estaba embarazada y aparentemente no estoy cerca de la menopausia.

To continue looking for an answer he sent me blood tests, hormonal and profile 20, for the hormonal tests I had to have my menstruation, he also indicated a mammogram and abdominal and breast ultrasound.

Para seguir buscando respuesta me envió exámenes de sangre, hormonales y perfil 20, para las pruebas de hormonas debía tener la menstruación, también me indicó una mamografía y eco abdominal y eco mamario.

Since I didn't want to go to the clinic several times for all the tests, I waited for my period, which came 20 days after the consultation, so I went on the fifth day of my period. I spent the whole morning in the clinic, in the waiting rooms. Something I really liked is that this clinic has a women's unit, everything is very nice and very well taken care of.

Como no quería ir varias veces a la clínica para todas las pruebas, esperé a que me viniera la regla, que llegó 20 días después de la consulta, así que fui el quinto día de mi periodo. Pasé toda la mañana en la clínica, en las salas de espera. Algo que me gustó mucho es que esta clínica tiene una unidad de mujeres, todo es muy bonito y está muy bien cuidado.

Mis resultados // My results

A week later I went back to the doctor to have my results read. My hormone tests showed that I was a few years away from menopause. The ultrasound and mammogram indicate that I still have enough breast tissue, so if I wanted to have another baby I could continue to breastfeed.

Una semana después estuve de vuelta con la doctora para la lectura de mis resultados. Mis exámenes hormonales arrojaron que me faltan algunos años para la menopausia. La ecografía de mama y mamografía indican que todavía tengo tejido mamario suficiente, así que si quisiera tener otro bebé podría seguir amamantando.

The abdominal ultrasound was not so good since I was found to have a fatty liver (grade I) but it is something that can improve with a little diet and also the inflamed colon. As a diagnosis the doctor told me that it could be the colon that during my menstruation makes me feel such strong pains. She indicated treatment for 3 months since she informed me that the treatments for the colon are long. I am waiting to see if this month my pains decrease.

El eco abdominal no estuvo tan bien ya que se me encontró el hígado graso (grado I) pero es algo que puede mejorar con un poco de dieta y también el colon inflamado. Como diagnóstico la doctora me dijo que podría ser el colon el que durante mi menstruación hace que sienta esos dolores tan fuertes. Me indicó tratamiento por 3 meses ya que me informó que los tratamientos para el colon son largos. Estoy esperando para ver si este mes mis dolores disminuyen.

Regarding the cytology everything went well, nothing to worry about and with the profile 20 I also have to do some diet to lower the levels of blood glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides and uric acid. They are not above the upper limits but they are a little high. I am already taking measures, but it is hard to change from one day to the next.

En cuanto a la citología todo ha ido bien, nada preocupante y con el perfil 20 también tengo que hacer alguna dieta para bajar los niveles de glicemia, colesterol, triglicéridos y ácido úrico en sangre. No están por encima de los límites superiores pero están un poco altos. Ya estoy tomando medidas, pero es difícil cambiar de un día para otro.

Aprendizaje // Learning

I know I am not the only one who has been afraid, but today I have learned that we must think more about our future, there are many diseases that can be avoided with an early diagnosis. I was afraid, because I did not know what the doctor was going to find, but now I am happy because I am fine. The doctor only told me: see you in a year.

Yo se que no soy la única que ha tenido miedo, pero hoy aprendí que debemos pensar más en nuestro futuro, hay muchas enfermedades que se pueden evitar con un diagnóstico temprano. Yo sentía temor, porque no sabía lo que la doctora podría encontrar, pero ahora estoy feliz porque estoy bien. La doctora solo me dijo: nos vemos en un año.

Remember to get an annual checkup, don't wait until you feel bad to go to the doctor like I did. Sometimes we don't want to or think we don't have time to take care of our health. All of us women should be aware that we are risking our lives when we don't get our annual checkup. I hope I have learned my lesson well.

Recuerda hacerte un chequeo anual, no esperes a sentirte mal para ir al médico como hice yo. A veces no queremos o pensamos que no tenemos tiempo para cuidar nuestra salud. Todas las mujeres deberíamos ser conscientes de que nos jugamos la vida cuando no nos hacemos la revisión anual. Espero haber aprendido bien la lección.
