The taste and tradition of old Dhaka biryani are famous all over the country. Old Dhaka means all the delicious food that brings water to the tongue. However, the taste, aroma and meaning of Kachchi and chicken biryani from various shops in old Dhaka are the most advanced. These shops are open from morning till about midnight. Many people in old Dhaka eat breakfast, lunch and dinner with biryani. And crowds of people from different parts of the capital come to taste biryani during lunch and dinner. It is heard that these foods have been popular since the Mughal period.
Last Wednesday we went to visit old Dhaka with five friends. And to eat the traditional biryani there. We left Dhanmondi by bus for Tati Bari. From there we go to Mitford. We left early in the morning for the purpose of old Dhaka. At first, our aim was to eat Manik Chan's chicken polao for breakfast in the traditional breakfast of old Dhaka. But sadly the food in his shop runs out before we reach him. The food at this Manik Chan shop ends before 7:30 in the morning. So I eat bread without getting chicken polao for breakfast.
After breakfast, we continue to wander around different parts of old Dhaka. We visit the oldest, traditional Badamtali Bazaar in Bangladesh. It is basically the largest market for fruit. Then we go to visit Ahsan Manzil. Then we go to Shahi Biryani House for lunch. The biryani of this place is famous all over the country. We sat down to eat in the midst of the huge crowd at noon. If I went a little later, I would miss the food here. A huge crowd of food lovers in the shop. However, due to the small size of the store, many are waiting in line to eat. Again, some people are taking the biryani home in packets.
Here, chicken polao is 110 taka, Khasir biryani is half 100 taka and full is 200 taka, Khasir Kachchi half is 120 taka and full is 200 taka. Apart from this, Firni, Dadhi and Borhani are available as desserts. We order full plate Kachchi for Rs.200. The taste of this biryani cannot be compared. We all eat Kachchi here with satisfaction.
It is known that the Mughals had a weakness for various delicious foods. And biryani is one of them. Even today that tradition of biryani is kept by the people of old Dhaka. A message, the roads of old Dhaka are very narrow so it is better not to take any car of your own there. Because it is difficult to drive on those roads with private cars or motorcycles.
