Steemit can be a tough place at times. Trust me...I know. I get the same “Steemit Blues” as everyone else from time to time. When I post a piece I’m really proud of just for it to bring in .43 cents. It sucks, but then again I think to myself...where else was I receiving ANY reward before this place for my input?!? That helps bring me back to reality and ground me a bit. I’m not a published author so the fact that anybody here actually cares to read my thoughts is amazing...and oddly enough, those people exist here! That’s exciting.
Know what else is exciting? Having someone else recognize your hard work. While these Isolated stats may seem meaningless in the grand scheme of things, I do feel they are important. Especially for relatively new blood such as myself.
This is now the second time in the past couple weeks that I’ve been mentioned in a piece by . He runs and showcases all different stats and metrics regarding the Steemit platform. In the one below, it focuses on the TOP 200 effective Steemit сurators that encouraged discussion for the last week (2018.07.23-2018.07.30).
Looking at the list of amazing users on this list that inspire me here, it’s an honor to be on this small sample with them. A few that I converse with or look up to here such as ,
,
,
,
,
,
,
, & so many more. I’ve always thought that it was great how they not only got back to me when I made the efforts to reach out to them but they did that for most comments. In most cases, they also upvoted the user commenting and initiating dialogue.
Okay...so I barely made the top 200, coming in at #195...but that’s still fairly impressive and should be a lesson to new users. I’ve only been here for 4 months and while I still struggle, I feel as though I’ve made great strides. I’m learning daily here and that is what’s important.
One thing I like doing for several reasons is upvote ANY person that leaves a comment on any piece of mine. Not only does this let me know that I took a look at that comment but also that I responded to it. It’s easy for things to get lost in the shuffle here so that helps me out while also throwing an Upvote to the other user. Every cent counts! If it’s just usual banter it’ll be the minimum but if it’s a killer comment for whatever reason, I’ll throw a bit more weight behind it. Depends...
Here left a comment on a piece about an artist we both like. While that upvote might not seem like a lot...I do that for EVERY comment. It adds up...believe me. Also if they are engaging with a bunch of folks here and they have the same mentality, that’s going to add up to a nice chunk of rewards for comments.
I think commenting is a feature that kind of gets lost or forgotten by new users. It’s extremely important. You can’t just wait for an audience to magically find you on your posts. Won’t happen. Go out there and find like minded people or folks you want to converse with...and well...converse!!
My pieces may not earn a bunch as of yet but go backtrack through my posts. You’ll notice that they are getting folks talking. That’s super rewarding in itself.
There’s also which I think we all should be supporting. It helps get those small votes to .02 so that it actually end up in your wallet and not turned to...well...dust. It’s a fantastic program run by

All in all I just want to preach to anyone out there that getting dialogue going is ALWAYS going to end up benefiting not only those conversing...but the entire platform as a whole. The more people we have here taking an actual interest in others works and discussing it, the better and stronger we all are. Reward those who make the effort and comment on your posts. It encourages folks that they might be doing something right and the cycle goes on and on.
What’s your thoughts folks? Do you initiate enough? Do you reward those who reach out to you and genuinely make an effort? Let me know in the comments below.
