I haven't been watching a ton of the NBA playoffs, but it would appear the Detroit Pistons are working on finding a way to piss away their chances at moving on. They had a nice two game lead over Cleveland, but not the series is tied 2 to 2. Just when you think they are going to have some momentum they go and do this. It reminds me a bit of why I stopped caring.
The good news is, softball is still on and that gives me something really fun to focus on while we wait to see if the Pistons are going to implode or not. As I mentioned in my post yesterday, the selection show was on Sunday night and the bracket has been set for the NCAA Softball Tournament.
Unlike the power conference tournaments, now that we are in the NCAA tournament, we are back to a double elimination format. Well, at least for the first round. The regionals have historically been a double elimination format set up into groups of "quads". These four teams play against each other in each quad until one of them is left. Then we move along to the Super Regionals where the format moves to a best of three games.
Once the regionals and super regionals are finished, then we have what they call the Women's College World Series. By that point there will only be eight teams left and they move back to the double elimination "quad" format until there are only two teams left. Those two teams play a best of three series for the championship.
I should also point out, the Division II softball tournament starts this week as well. The Tiffin Dragons made it to the national tournament, so I will be following them as best I can. While the Division I play starts on Friday, the Division II play begins on Thursday.
I'll dig into the Division II bracket tomorrow, today I am just going to cover the Division I games.
I'm pretty happy to see that USC Upstate who won the Big South Tournament is going to have to face Alabama in their first game of the tournament. I honestly hope they lose. I don't have a lot of love for the team that beat my nieces team four times this past year.
It's going to be a busy day on Friday with a massive 32 games being played.
Florida A&M faces 2 see Florida, Stetson faces 3 seed Florida State, Howard faces 3 seed Duke, and as I said, USC Upstate faces 1 seed Alabama.
Georgia Tech will go against 7 seed Texas State, Baylor faces 8 seed Wisconsin, Princeton will match up with 5 seed Stanford, and Boston U will meet 6 seed Ole Miss in the first games.
UConn vs 4 seed Texas A&M, Jacksonville State faces 6 seed UCF, Marshall will battle 6 seed Arizona, and Belmont will match up with 8 seed Southeastern Louisiana.
Binghamton takes on 1 seed Oklahoma, South Alabama vs. 5 seed Virginia Tech, Grand Canyon vs 8 seed Louisville, and Wagner vs 1 seed Texas.
Eastern Illinois vs. 4 seed Oklahoma State, Marist vs. 3 seed Texas Tech, UNC Greensboro vs. 6 seed Clemson, and McNeese vs. 5 seed Arizona State.
Fordham vs. 2 seed Arkansas, Northern Kentucky vs 2 seed Tennessee, Michigan vs 8 seed Kansas, Akron vs. 4 seed LSU, South Dakota vs. 1 seed Nebraska, and Col of Charleston vs. 3 seed Georgia.
Finally, we have Cal St. Fullerton vs. 7 seed South Carolina, Saint Mary's vs. 5 seed Mississippi State, South Florida vs. 7 seed Washington, Indiana vs. 7 seed Virginia, California Baptist vs. 2 seed UCLA, and Idaho State vs. 4 seed Oregon.
I'd like to see some Big Ten schools have some upsets this week. Except maybe Michigan. They can just lose right away as far as I am concerned.
