I was driving down the road the other day when the first song I am going to share in this post came on the radio. It had been a long time since I last heard it, but it instantly took me back to a specific time in my life. That's one of the things I love so much about music. It has this magical ability to instantly transport you to certain locations or memories based on the song.
It's also interesting how certain songs are tied so closely to certain movies that as soon as you hear the song, the first thing you think of is that scene in that one movie where this song was being played.
That was definitely the case with the first song I am about to share.
This week for #threetunetuesday sponsored by , I am taking you to the movies, but more than that, I am issuing a challenge to you. Each of these songs is tied to a very specific movie from the 80's. There might be a couple that showed up in multiple movies, but I am looking for the correct combination of songs and movies. The first person to correctly answer in the comments will get 5 HBI shares donated on their behalf from my
account.
Don't know what HBI is? I'll cover that more at the end of the post.
So let's get going:
This one is going to be pretty obvious if you pay close attention to the video and you were alive in the 80's. We might as well call it a gimme quite honestly. "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" was a decent hit from Starship that almost became a bit of an anthem back in the 80's. It's honestly quite fitting given the longevity of the band Starship.
Formerly known as Jefferson Airplane, formerly known as Jefferson Starship, then finally Starship, in that final form this band became synonymous with the 80's. I remember my sister had the cassette tape of Knee Deep in the Hoopla touting hits such as "We Built This City", and Sara. It was a pretty great album.
If you love some heavy synthesizer awesomeness, you really need to check out Starship
Remember, I need the specific 80's movie that this song was in.
This one might be a little harder. "We're Not Gonna Take It" from Twisted Sister plays a relatively small, but very significant part in one of my favorite movies from the 80's. It was an inspirational tale that had every young boy believing they could have a specific occupation when they grew up.
If "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" was an anthem for young teenage lovers back in the 80's, "We're Not Gonna Take It" was an anthem for all the loners and stoners who were sick of all the authority and status quo.
Remember, the 80's was a time of hair metal and punk rock. People were looking for a change, it was the "era of excess" and all the rules, regulations, and conformity wasn't going to change that. Oddly enough, if I remember right, this song isn't even on the soundtrack for the specific movie, but it was definitely in the movie. I remember the scene well...
This one is probably going to be even harder. Simply for the fact that I believe it was included in several 80's movies. Remember though, I am looking for a very specific one. Another thing that makes this one so hard is the fact that Tears for Fears was basically everywhere in the 80's. I remember picking up a copy of Songs From the Big Chair and playing it over and over again. It was a pretty great album.
With songs like "Shout", "Head over Heels", and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", it was basically a greatest hits album the moment it came out. In fact, I don't know as though Tears for Fears saw the same success on any other album after that. The only other popular song from them I can remember off the top of my head is "Sowing the Seeds of Love".
In any event, this song is played in a more obscure movie, but it is still one of my very favorites from the 80's. I really can't tell you more about it without giving too much away.
I realize this might be a kind of hard contest and that is why I am giving away so much HBI to the winner.
Oh right, so I mentioned HBI. Basically, you can donate shares of HBI to any user on the chain. When you donate a share to them, you also get a share in return. As your shares grow, you earn a percentage of upvote from the HBI account based on your share holdings. If you end up with a lot of shares, it can be a pretty decent vote on every single one of your posts.
Just remember not to abuse it, if you post three times in one day, by the end of the week, your vote is going to be pretty low. Plus, that's just a bit excessive anyway. It's a great way to draw unwanted attention to yourself and earn some downvotes.
One well written post is much better than three crappy posts any day.
There you have it, those are my #threetunetuesday entries. I look forward to seeing who comes away victorious. I've got some guesses already as to who it might be.
May the odds be forever in your favor!
