According to Wikipedia "the "hot hand" is the purported phenomenon that a person who experiences a successful outcome with a random event has a greater probability of success in further attempts."
That wasn't the actual case this weekend when and I drove down to see our nieces play basketball in Ohio. Don't get me wrong, they both played amazing in their respective positions/games. I was so proud to see them hustle on the court and give their 100% in each game.
Their parents have instilled in them a work ethic and respect for the game that is second to none. I think they might have gotten some good juju from too who was quite the basketball player in her day.
My oldest niece's team won their first game, but lost the second one. A lot of this was due in part to a rule about players only being able to play 5 quarters in a game. Even though the first game was a blow out, the coach lost track and kept my niece in for all four quarters.
This meant she was only available to play one quarter in the second game. Call me biased, but I think she could have made a significant difference in the outcome of that game had she been able to play.
The next day they only had one game so she was free to play all four quarters and they won quite easily. I think her official position is center, so scoring isn't as big of a priority for her as rebounding and playing defense. Hence my comment about the "hot hand".
Additionally, when we left Michigan, it was sunny and there was zero snow on the ground. Saturday in Ohio they ended up getting 5 plus inches of snow and all of our hands were cold as a result!
My youngest niece had a tougher time in her only game on Saturday, but she played amazing and their team only lost by 4 points. It was a very close game that had some very poor officiating if I do say so myself :)
Speaking of a "hot hand", I was lucky enough to pull these cards in one of my daily quests last week. That Sea Genie allowed me to upgrade my other gold foil Sea Genie to a level 5 gf Sea Genie.
I was also pretty excited to get the Phantom Soldier for my Death deck.
Right now most of my progress is being hampered by the fact that my summoners are too low level. I made an effort to resolve that this morning by purchasing some Beta packs before the SP incentive goes away.
No gold foil cards, but I was pretty excited to see a couple of legendaries show up. Those epics are a welcome addition too. I actually didn't get that many summoners and it might have been a smarter move just to purchase what I needed on the marketplace, but there is always that chance you might pull something you can sell for a profit when you buy some Beta packs.
As you can see, pretty common stuff here.
I am kind of excited about that Grumpy Dwarf. I have always kind of considered that card a dark horse that doesn't get enough credit. At higher levels though he has decent health and shield plus the enrage ability. Add to that the new ability they are going to give him (being able to attack from the #2 slot) and I think he is going to be really powerful.
It wasn't really the outcome I was hoping for with the Beta packs, but I am still glad I made the purchase.
As a final thought, this weekend we saw a pretty big shakeup with some delegations being pulled from some favorite dapps on the Steem blockchain. I think it is really important that we remember Steemitinc have been saying all along that these groups need to find a way to support themselves without delegations.
has been preaching this as well and if you go back and look at his past posts, you will see or hear it covered many times. SteemMonsters has done a good job of creating a model where they aren't dependent on a large delegation to keep operating. Other dapps are going to need to do this as well if they want to remain viable.
Hopefully this delegation pull will be a wake up call to some of the dapp developers that they need to step up their game and have a legitimate roadmap for the future if they want to prosper.
Until next time Steemians!
