How to pack a braai fire
If you follow me on Social, you may have noticed that Huawei recently asked me to help them promote their new Huawei Mate 20 Lite. One of the things they asked me to do was to use the phone to make a video of "How to pack the perfect fire". Being the clown that I am, I decided to do it in Afrikaans... Why? Well, the word for fire is "vuur" in Afrikaans, which when spoken sounds exactly the same as "vier" (which means four in English)... I think you know where I'm going with this :P If not, you can catch that video over here: https://steemit.com/teamsouthafrica/@braaiboy/how-om-die-perfekte-vuur-te-pak-i-e-how-to-pack-the-perfect-fire
OK, but how DOES one pack the perfect fire?
Well... For years, I sort of assumed that we, South Africans anyway, all know how to pack and light a fire... There has been the odd request now and again for me to write an article and/or make a video to this effect, but I've always asked the editor in question that we rather do something more interesting ... Well, I in this video I pack 3 (OK, actually 4 because we needed to eat as well) different fires:

The first two ("Teepee" and "box"), are popular methods, and both work great. Personally I prefer the "box" method when I'm braaing, and the "Teepee" when we're going to be socialising for some time, adding more and more logs as we go along before finally getting to the actual braaing of the meat.
The third however (an "upside down box" of sorts) I've know about for some time, but never really got around to trying it out. Seemed like more of a gimmick to me.
How to pack an upside down box fire?
Well... as the name suggests, it looks like a box fire, but instead of placing kindling/fuel source at the bottom, the kindling is placed on top of the wood.
seems almost counter-intuitive
I'll be honest, I was pretty skeptical... but it turns out that it works. There's no roaring fire and the flames are pretty lame (maybe I did something wrong... so I try this a few more times)... but it out-lasted both other fires by hours. After filming we normally chill and have a few drinks etc.... and even after all of this, and both other fires had burnt out, the "upside box" was STILL going.
So... yeah, if you want to make a chilled little fire for some ambient mood-setting and a tiny bit of heat... give it a try!
...and the 4th fire?
Glad you asked! :P

Which is your favourite way of packing your fire? Please hit me up in the comments below (even if you wanna point out something I did wrong with the "upside down box").
Do you have any recipes or ideas that you would like to see me try out? Let me know in the comments below and if I use your idea there will be a reward in it for you. I don't know what that reward is just yet... but there will be a reward, and it will be cool (public high-5's are cool, right?) ;-)
Liked the video/Recipe? Maybe you thought it was crap?
Either way, let me know in the comments below.
