Your looks are one of the first things people will judge about you, it is what will determine how they will relate with you later on and it is what will also get to decide if they should even stay on with you or let you go.
The way you are dressed is the way you are addressed, that statement is very correct. How people see you is how they will rate you. Just by your dressing alone, some people can guess the kind of things you will tolerate and the ones you will abhor. It is like a default setting, even without knowing anything about the person, their way of dressing will give you an inkling as to what kind of character they possess.
Whether it is formal or casual, native or just for the fun of it, each situation requires its kind of dressing. Like the dress you wear to the club is not what you wear to your workplace. In both places, you will stick out like a sore thumb. Also, what you wear when you are going to see a friend in your neighborhood is different from what you will wear when you are going to visit another friend that is far away.
But then, no matter how many modes of dressing there are for different occasions, in each of them we all speak a different language and we are able to incorporate ourselves into it. Every style of dressing we copy has a stamp that is unique only to us, something that makes us stand out, even if everyone else is rocking the same style.
Now, do I have a fashion sense?
Of course, everyone has a fashion sense. Just that some people have their own sharper than others. For me, I’m not one of those people that really care a lot about fashion. I’ve always been the kind of person that so long the dress is clean and fits me, and then I will definitely wear it.
Right from my secondary school days, I always hated tucking in my shirt. I just never saw the point. It looked neat and all, but it was always making me feel hot. So my school shirt remained tucked in for the duration of the school assembly, the moment I returned to my class, I pulled it out at once.
And I took this habit to my adulthood. Any dressing that requires me having to tuck in, I usually avoid it like a plague. Someone once asked me what I will do if I have to go to an interview and I, therefore, have to dress corporate. Well, when that time reaches, I’ll have no choice.
Over the years though, I’ve had to dress corporate. In school when I was defending my project, and also back when I was fully involved in network marketing.
Apart from the tucking in though, something else that put me off corporate is shoes. I have big feet, and because of that getting my size is usually difficult and expensive. It might size me initially, but with time it always became tight. I’ve been advised to customize my own shoe, but all that seems like too much work right now.
So, how then do I actually dress?
I’m a huge fan of palm slippers, I can literally wear them anywhere at all. And I also wear sandals as well. so anything form of dressing that can go with these footwears is okay by me. I wear lots of polo, joggers, jeans, senators, jalamia, and a few Ankara.
I’m always keeping it simple, seeing how I dress for my comfort and not to impress anyone. I don’t flow with the trends, I only get what I can afford as at the time I am buying.
I have thought about clothes I would never wear and I came up empty. Because even for the corporate wear, if I am left with no choice I would still wear them. I don’t think there is any form of dressing I would not do if I am given the right motivation. As long as it doesn’t involve me getting half-naked, then I am definitely down for it.
Sometimes though, I see people rocking corporate wears so flawlessly, making it look so cool and easy. I wonder how they do it. Because when I wear it, all I can think of is how uncomfortable it is making me. If there is something I would love to be wearing but can’t, I guess it is still corporate. Yeah, I’m kinda confused. I kinda love it and I also kinda hate it. What is wrong with me?
Anyway, over the years, my fashion sense has evolved. As we keep on getting conscious of how people see us, and how it affects even our businesses, we would have no choice but to make amends to our style in a way that will be beneficial to us. That is something I learned and I have been putting it to use.
In the fashion world, change is constant. What is trending today might become obsolete tomorrow, but what remains the same will be your style. It can only grow as you yourself grow. And that is a fact.
