Hello everyone, how are you all doing on this beautiful day? Hope you all are starting the week on a good note and on the right foot, because today could very well determine how the rest of the week could go for you.
But do not let that thought pressure you, just keep on doing your best and being your positive self. It will always come together in the end.
Today, I would love to talk about a subject that touches us all. It could be in a good way and it could also be in a bad way. But it is surely a subject that deserves to be talked about. And that subject is Social Media.
When we were born, the methods of communication and propagation of information were through the traditional methods which were television, radio, and the papers. If you wanted anyone to know to hear what you wanted to tell them, those were your outlets.
But then, as technology evolved and computers progressed, we got the internet. And that was the beginning of a transformation the world has never seen before. At first, it was just emails that we had, and then websites came along. In no time, we got to have the social media we all enjoy today.
You can stay in the comfort of your living room and be communicating clearly with someone on the other end of the world. You can be friends with people you have never set your naked eyes upon and you can also have access to information whenever you need it.
But with this milestone that was crossed came a lot of problems, social media became a valuable tool for fraudsters, swindlers and if one was not careful your private life could be exposed to the entire world to see. It has gotten so bad that some people now live only for the likes and the following.
It is sad that something tragic might happen in a particular place and instead of the people around to lend a helping hand they would be more interested in taking pictures and making videos. People will see someone injured and all that will cross their minds is to fish out their phones and begin to record. This is sad, and it is a trend that does not seem to be stopping anytime soon at all.
Social media was designed with the idea of making the world a smaller place, bringing people who were far away closer so that they could get more things done. It was designed to make lives better. And it is sad that some people choose some other reasons to apply social media.
On the other hand, social media has indeed helped a lot of people. For writers like me, it has helped to provide a platform where my voice can be heard as often as I want it to. It has given us the opportunity to know people we would never have thought of coming into contact with.
It has also provided jobs. There are hundreds of jobs now that are based on social media, some people get employed by companies, others monetize their accounts and by putting out regular content they are able to earn a living.
What am I trying to say? What has advantages will surely have disadvantages, but we are not meant to allow the disadvantages to keep us from taking control and using it to our benefit. When we use social media, we are meant to be cordial about it and make sure we only use it to make lives better for ourselves and those around us. It should not be a tool to spread fake news, hate messages, or information that would cause unrest.
Social media is only a tool; we are the ones that will decide what to do with it. Good or bad, it will always be our choice. Never forget that.
So, as you go about scrolling through social media from time to time, remember to make good use of the opportunity it provides and shun from using it for nefarious reasons.
