Needed to get moving earlier today as we have an evening engagement in the city. Was on the move to visit the far side of Ku-ring Gai Chase NP to look for flying duck orchids. My mate posted photos last week - not places - just photos. I knew where to begin
This slice of the NP is a great spot for spring flowers - this pink flute thing
A version of rice flower
Looks a bit like hibbertia - leaf is not though
Bundles of fluff and red
Fringe lily. The target for the walk is a big rock slab important to Aboriginal heritage - the orchids are found on the sedge segments
Last time I was here, my mate told me the flying ducks would be here - he was right
Two plants inter-twined with 5 flowers between them - triple header is not common
Walked the whole slice of the rocks - sections were like mini-bonzai forests. There is just one inch of soil.
A few flannel flowers - headed up higher on the slabs than walked before
Bearded orchid seeded - next year will be good to visit once a month. Also saw sun orchids seeded.
The striking feature is the tessellation in the rocks. Good chance is the channels were carved to encourage water to flow in a specific way
A bottle brush - not seen this one before
A cluster of fringe lilies
Love this little spiky number - did not get the attendant bee that was buzzing
A few more flying duck orchids - all single flowers
Caleana major
Front on photo is hard work as the profile is quite narrow - 2 to 3 matchsticks wide
Surprised an echidna on the way back - it went into hide mode - not budging
Large tongue orchid in car park not far from the start of the walk.
Was a good walk. Got a new location for an orchid but sad to not find caleana minor. They were here last week.
Did the shopping on the way home
Went into town to meet my kids cousin visiting from South Africa. Had a few beers in a German bar - a bit late for Oktberfest. Did the selfie on Carrington Street
Nice to have a night off cooking and to eat something I would not cook.
