for creating an opportunity to share about a powerful important subject as natural medicine
I have been writing about food as medicine as long as I have been on steemit and living what I preach for 5 years now. Eating a healthy whole plant based diet, i've barely been sick except when I'm in close proximity to sick people or I over extend myself physically or mentally i'm prone to picking up anything to do with the nose & throat (due to my sun sign in Taurus: ruled by the throat) so it's a problematic area for me. I hate to be around cars, traffic, air conditioned environments which is exactly one of many reasons why i don't like having a conventional job.
Well unfortunately I had to take a 'conventional job' to earn a bit of fast cash this summer so I could go to Lombok.... that's exactly what made me sick. We had what was called the air conditioning wars, i'd turn it off and someone else would turn it back on. The person who would turned it back on insisted we would die if we had it off, and i pointed out the black mold was growing on the vents which was seriously dangerous to human health. Why don't they have normal windows in office buildings I pondered? my team leader replied very deadpan 'it's because people might want to jump out the window to kill themselves.' Literally WOW why are people doing this work if thats how bad it can get, thankfully they fired me after a month 😂
Good thing that ended quickly but I left with one of the worst flu's i've had in like 10 years or more. I didn't use any conventional medicine, no pain killers, just kept eating healthy, drank load of water, bathed in the sun, rested but it just wouldn't shift it had been more than 2 weeks and we were due to fly to Lombok, by that point I felt somewhat ok but I can tell you after the long haul and the change in climate, my body just gave in. My sinus got worse, i had a permanent migraine and I just wanted to sleep all day.
I didn't know what to do, I was doing a face-steem with essential oils, which would give me temporary relief but it wouldn't budge. I took a walk in the village the next day with my partner and to our surprise we saw a Chinese medicine looking clinic, with people sitting and waiting and a lady at a desk. It was the last thing we expected to see, it was a quiet village surrounded by rice paddies. My partner urged me to go in, I'd never been to a clinic like this before but it was my only hope. I described my symptoms to the lady at the desk and she said that my sinus are blocked and we need to do a flush to get all the mucus and water out. I paid something like 10 bucks maybe even less for an hours treatment, and a back massage! what a deal!
I'm going to walk you through the process through these images we took:
Here was the practitioner called Erni, she said she trained in Chinese medicine in Australia, she had a bit of an Aussie accent which was funny :) She started by getting this syringe ready which was going to be inserted up my nostrils, it was a herbal concoction.
She set the syringe aside and then I had to lie face down on the bed whilst her assistant massaged my back and my legs pretty much everywhere to stimulate my blood vessels but also open up the chest area.
As you can imagine this was quite pleasant and I didn't really want it to end... i was a bit terrified of how uncomfortable the next bit would be....
Erni told me to lie on my front for the main treatment, she is smiling knowing shes going to help me!
She put the syringe in one nostril and I had to breath in as much as possible and swallow, she did the same on the other nostril.
Then I had to blow everything out into this tissue she was holding each nostril whilst I blew out the other, blowing mucus straight down through the hole in the bed into a bucket
So much water and phlegm came out it was unreal, I thought it important to show this as it's the main part of the treatment, the stuff that caused me so much pain and it was all out,
(the picture is a bit graphic so just scroll past quickly and look away!)
...
This is me beaming afterwards, I felt a lot lighter but as you can see I'm very red in the face and puffy from all that water that was stuck in my sinus
Afterwards we looked at some of the medicines she had on display, in her little shop just outside the clinic.
My partner had a lot of bites not just mossies but maybe flee bites from the cats where we were staying. I didn't seem to have them tho. Erni suggested his blood sugar level is too high (maybe all the fruits we eat, he will eat double what i do!) so she suggested that he use this mahogany honey, from bees that collect from mahogany tree pollen. It's a sour honey and lower the blood sugar.
We even got invites back to see Erni's house and have a cup of tea, she showed us she was keeping sting-less bees and collecting some of the honey from that as well.
We're vegans but when it comes to using something for medicinal purposes we can budge a little, for me what's important that the bees have enough too and how they are kept... mass produced brands I'd never touch. I don't use honey regularly but in the case of my partners bites and soothing my sore throat it really works. In hindsight ceylon cinnamon would of been good for lowering the blood sugar levels, but you can't always find what you need when your traveling.
My conclusion after visiting a herbal clinic: the care, attention, treatment and connection was the best experience i've had medically. Unlike when i've visited conventional doctors, they give you a quick check to 'confirm' your sickness and then prescribe you some antibiotics which can cause other issues in your body, to take for 7 days or so, or even worse they don't know whats wrong with you and you get refereed, and everything is delayed. Here everything was quick, the treatment was effective + targeted the problem area directly, I was well on my way to feeling better straight away!
THE MESSAGE IS THE FREEDOM TO CHOOSE HOW YOU WANT TO BE TREATED, this is the most important thing for me, its my body and I know what it needs, where I feel comfortable. I'm pretty spiritual and really felt like the clinic popped up as and when I so desperately needed it. That the universe or mother nature has the right thing for me at the right time.
