That full moon night on October 31, 1881, no one imagined what was about to happen.
It all started in the evening hours when a guy was running along the paths of the French forest. He wanted to get as deep into the trees as possible to lose the crowd of people who wanted to lynch him.
Panting and exhausted, he stopped and took refuge in a cave formed by the rocks. He repeated to himself over and over again that it was humanity that was not ready for his discoveries and that he had nothing wrong with him, as everyone wanted him to think.
As he lit a fire to warm himself, tears flooded his eyes and he paused for a moment to sob.
The crowd set his house on fire and his wife and son took what they needed and gave it to him in a cloth bag. He hung the bag on her and when he went out the window the flames blocked the exit and his family was lost in the smoke and flames. As much as he looked for ways to get them out, he couldn't and had to run into the woods or they would kill him too.
He remembered that people called him "the sorcerer" because of the medicinal potions his grandmother taught him. He thought he could brew some concoction to make humanity pay for all they had done to him and his family.
As he opened the cloth bag to look for what to brew in again he felt sad for the things of his wife and son. He picked up the old pewter cup that his wife had inherited from her grandmother. The same one where so many cups of coffee have been drunk.
He went out into the woods to fetch some of the ingredients for his brew and began the ritual.
An evil shadow haunted the place and he could feel it. Anger mowed him down and he began to place in the family heirloom: mountain toad eyes, raven feathers, rutting deer hair, hibernating bear's eyelashes He wanted to add all the pain in his soul and put tears for his family in the bowl. He added some ashes from the campfire and finally the roasted coffee beans that his wife kept in an old can to prepare the emergency coffee.
When the man dropped the coffee beans, an explosion shook the place and threw him into the air against the rocks. The cackle of the evil shadow echoed through every corner of the cavern.
The next day humanity was shopping in the stores for instant coffee. While Alphonse Allai s, remained in that cavern living as a hermit.
