Hey guys!
Let's talk about happiness.
No two people can describe happiness the same way. Your happiness may stem from hitting a goal, mine may stem from getting a car. But are those really what it should be centered around?
Let's see!
Happiness is a feeling. One that comes over you when life is going well. It's a sense of joy, peace and contentment. A beautiful feeling it is!
Now, they're a few practices I uphold which aid me in living a happy life.
• Stop chasing happiness
Happiness isn't when you land that dream job or promotion or acquire property or find love or learn a skill.
Ever noticed that when you keep chasing a thing(say a promotion), it feels too far away from your reach. I don't chase after things I think will make me happy cause I know that I am human and insatiable so when I get one, I will not be completely happy till I get the next one. Stop chasing after things.
• Enjoy my company
I realize that no one will love me more than I do myself nor more than they do themselves. So, I try to stay true to myself. I try to understand myself more, be more patient with me, wield my superpower and celebrate my uniqueness making out time to do those things I like to do which I cannot carryout in the presence of others.
• Consume what I like
This is same as do what you love and love what you do. Personally, I am calmer and more at peace whenever I read a book or watch; singing auditions, cooking recipes, room makeovers and things in that line or when I am alone in a calm room listening to soul music, holding lessons, etc. The same way you take in food and expect it to work it's magic to your body should be the same way you consume things that make you happy and watch your whole being metamorphose to a happy home.
• Find a reason to be happy
My family might be amongst the biggest reasons why I am happy.
Whenever your household is having an unrest, are you comfortable? I guess your answer is No. Same with me.
I am overly joyed whenever I am with family. I am fortunate enough to have a complete and very united family which most people cannot boast of. A family that loves, supports and are there for me. So everytime I look at them, I remind myself that I am blessed. Very fortunate. I also try to make them happy because seeing the smiles on their faces is enough reason to make my heart beat and my face contour to a laugh. Whatever will make you happy, find it and stick to it.
If you've been reading to this point, you'll notice that none of the things I mentioned are material, did you?
Well, that's because you can't find true happiness in those.
Sometimes I feel like there's no true happiness. That's because, there's always something weighing you down either physically or mentally. For instance, everything seems to be going well for you then your parents get sick or your salary isn't forthcoming or your grades are dropping or your expenditure keeps increasing against your income.
No one can boldly say they do not have one thing which isn't going too well for them irrespective of how minute the issue is. But that's life. We cannot have it all.
And that is why I do not place my happiness on people and things. I try not to be emotionally attached to things cause when they're taken away from me, I may feel downcast. I also do not trust people and their company to have fun and be happy because they're humans with limited memory and help capacity. Besides, they're humans and just like me, they may be hustling for their own happiness.
And this brings me to my main methods of finding happiness.
• Decide to be happy
No one can be there for me as much as i will be for myself. I know happiness is not a thing but a feeling which I cannot find outside myself. I take deep breaths, forgive offenders and myself inclusive. I enjoy whatever I am blessed with. Above all, I stay happy as I remind myself that there's actually no formula to happiness. Why should I channel my energy into being said which is a depleting feeling when I can channel that same energy into being happy which will make me feel and look better? You choose to be sad?...well it's you who will be going around with a stiffness in your heart and creases on our face.
When you see two persons, one grumpy and the other excited, who will you most like to associate with?...Answer that for yourself.
• Stay grateful
The little and big things I own is enough reason to be happy. Having food to eat is enough reason to be truly happy. Being alive is enough reason to be happy. That I am CheeAmaka is enough reason to be happy. I constantly appreciate myself because it gives a healthy esteem and makes my heart lighter. I do not also forget that someone somewhere is praying for the things I take for granted. Count your blessings.
Now to you dear reader, Look in the mirror. What do you see? True happiness cannot exist outside of the person you are looking at(you).
Be kind to yourself.
You DESERVE to be happy!
Thanks for reading to this point.
Have a great week.
Good-day!
